My muddy/soaked/gunged football fetish started in 1974 when I played football in middle school. There was one game when we played in a little rain. The team got a little damp, but not soaking wet. The sound of the rain hitting my helmet and shoulder pads just sounded really hot, somehow (I was 13, and just finding my wiener out.. it perked-up when I heard the sound and got damp).

I didn't go out for football again till I was in high school a couple years later and I was a sophomore. This all came about because a friend that lived two houses down from me played. He was a junior on the Varsity team at my high school and he was sorta like my big brother. He used to take me to practice games and I got to watch him get all sweaty and dirty. I went to a game one night with him and it poured rain. I was on the bench in his #84 jersey watching my buddy getting completely coated in mud. Being my "big brother", he had me come to the after game hose-down. He had me firehose his rinse-off. That was all it took - seeing this 6' dude coated it mud getting hosed - WOW!

The next year, even though I'm kinda small guy, my buddy helped me with practice, taught me some tricks and he got on the JV team. I got on the team as a running back/kicker.

We had a coach that was really into training for any kind of weather conditions that might occur - it rains here a lot during football season, and he was really into doing training on wet fields - he'd have the school turn on the sprinklers the night before and we'd practice in damp grass and a little mud.

The high school I went to had two fields - one was the practice field and we had what they called the game field. The game field was used for JV games and practice during my days. The old field, which was the old practice field wasn't maintained, so it had lost most of its crown, so when water, sprinklers or rain hit it, it turned into a one foot deep swamp in the whole field.

Coach had run the sprinklers one night before our practice and it rained the whole night after. We had to practice in that field the next day. When I first walked out on the field to do our practice game and do my kick-off, I sank up to my mid-ankles in mud. I looked over at coach and said, "really?" He said, "yep." I backed off my 10 steps, side stepped and kicked, landed on my ass in 12" of mud. Our team spent the rest of the day slopping in the goop, throwing mud at each other and sliding in the goo. In those days we had them longsleeved cotton practice jerseys.

On game night the next day, the game field was a mudpit and churned up from a game the day before. Our uniforms then were the early day mesh jerseys that were thick and very heavy when wet and muddy. Game night was a hoot - the whole team got completely coated in mud - my jersey, shimmel, helmet, cleats and socks were full of mud! After the game, my buddy that got me into football hosed me down with a firehose before he'd let me ride in his car. Even after the team showered in our gear, my buddy wouldn't let me ride in his car... Garbage bags all over!

That's why I love getting coated in mud in my full football uniform - especially having goop, mud and mud filling my jersey, helmet, pants, jersey & cleats - love the squishy thing....
