The You Can't Do That On Set Chronicles: Season 1, Episode 1By The Man and The WifePosted 1/13/24 1344 views
Welcome to the You Can't Do That On Set Chronicles! It's here that I'll be keeping track of info about our 'You Can't Do That On Set' video series episode by episode. This includes any of the series first-evers, fun facts, and behind the scenes happenings. YCDTOS has since become my favorite thing to do for our store.
Season 1, Episode 1
Release Date: 04/09/2021
Premise: "Set Ups"
Cast: The Wife, Ellie, Lilly, Bree
Notes:
- The Couch and the Red Room are the first non backdrop sets of the series. The couch would become a staple in (almost) every single episode, becoming where every show's first scene would take place. After this, it was forever known on set as the 'Introduction Couch.' I had no idea this would become a thing.
- The first pies, water, and chunky green slime of the series....duh!
- I was a tad bit overzealous with the water. The bucket was filled up so much that it resulted in a 35 second continuous deluge on poor Bree.
- All the slime pours lasted a continuous 30 seconds each...or more!
- The first smooth slime in the series, which was also the first purple slime of the series as well.
- The Ellie slime scene had to be color corrected...a LOT. We were recording on a Galaxy S6 at the time, and I have no idea what I did to the settings before that scene...but some serious color correction had to be done to make it presentable!
- The first time, even in our store's history, that a sliming was shot with the camera set up extremely close to the target. These were the final slimes of the episode, and we had the camera set up on a table with The Wife sitting right in front of it...praying that no splatter would hit the lens
- The relatively simple intro scene took just shy of 30 minutes to shoot because The Wife and Lilly had a severe case of the giggles that day.
- The quick list cross off bit was a nod to my favorite movie of all time: Kill Bill vol. 1
- The final scene has two minor things...First, on the right you can see the roll of blue painters tape I used to set up the tarps for the scene accidentally left in shot. Second, after the second slime starts and The Wife turns around to look at Lilly, you can briefly see a tarp showing next to the bookshelf.
- Uncooked cream of wheat was used in the final sliming, giving it a slightly grainy texture.
- The least amount of chunky green slimings in any episode (hey, it was our first one!)
