The Live and Kicking Gunge Tank

Hi everyone,

Today I thought I would make a post about Live and Kicking's Gunge Tank which I feel was one of the best for coverage and suspense. The show featured a Gunge Tank for many years where a variety of contestants and celebs sat on a chair inside a perplex glass gunge tank where they would attempt to win a game or face a gunging. The format changed over the years and all of the games worked pretty well in my opinion but I'm curious to hear what other people think so I'm going to explain each format briefly so that you can decide.

Word Game - Unknown Title - This format involved a member of the audience being chosen by random presumably to sit in the Gunge Tank while a celebrity had to answer a series of questions relating to a subject. Sometimes friends nominated each other or parents of the contestants who wrote in. There was trigger word which was shown to the audience and if the celebrity said the dreaded word then the person sitting in the hot seat would get gunged! This was quite exciting as you didn't know if and when the person would get slimed and there was always the possibility of the celebrity switching places at anytime.. nobody was safe. The gunge looked amazing for many of the gungings from this game, great coverage and you could tell that the participants got totally humilated.

The Kid Gets It! This format featured a court/trial theme to the studio set where friends and relatives could nominate someone to come into the Gunge court with a case to be settled. Anything was debated such as someone's obsession with a music band to someone playing pranks on their older sister. After each contestant has a chance to defend themselves the jury must decide who they feel most deserves to get gunged after being declared guilty. This was another exciting format as some unexpected gungings took place where the defendent was seen as wasting court time and was sentence to a gunging. The gunge again was thick, colourful and completely messed up the losing contestant causing complete humilation.

The Leakiest Sink - One of the later games which worked quite differently from the past. It began with three contestants answering a series of questions about a celebrity. The winner of three would get then chance to meet the celeb. One of the three conestants would not even make it to the gunge tank round if they had the lowest amount of points. Finishing this game in second place meant you were going to get gunged. Both of the final two contestants would take it in turns to sit in the tank while the celebrity would pull one of six plungers from a sink mechanism, one of which triggers the gunge to drop. There was a huge amount of suspence which built as the game went on and the best ones were when the celeb didn't choose the gunge until there were only two plungers left. Once it was chose, sirens sounded and the person in the tank got completely gunged and humilated. Brilliant!

Stop the Snot - The last variation of the Gunge Tank where a contestant who had written or a celebrity would sit in the hot seat sat beneath a giant pink plastic nose which was filled with snot. The contestant would have to avoid saying the words yes or no while being asked a series of questions for 60 seconds. There was almost always someone outside the tank answering the questions while the person sat in the hot seat waited nervously for their fate. I don't think there was any show where nobody got gunged. For every 10 seconds a question was answered correctly, a prize was won and for the unlucky person who was sat in the tank when the dreaded words yes or no were said would get covered in green gunge which dropped on them from the nose above where they would get snotted! Sirens sounded and the contestants got completely covered in green gunk. This was another exciting game with the element of not knowing when, if and who were going to get gunged included. This was my fav game, not exactly sure why so much but If I had applied to go on L&K, I would have loved to have been nominated by someone to play Stop the Snot and get green gunged in the tank getting the snot.

So there you have it, most of if not all of the L&K Gunge Tank games which featured on the show. Let me know which ones you liked, the ones you didn't and any other comments you have on the tank.

See ya

Live and Kicking had some great gungings in its time.

Ben Adams and Lee Ryan are two that come to mind. Ben losing a quiz and Lee getting it on Stop the Snot.

There were also a couple of good looking older (i.e. late teens/early 20s) contestants from the audience that also got the gunging on the leakiest sink that were enjoyable.

I love clear glass gungetanks where you can see the victim sat beneath the gunge looking nervous, with the vat of gunge above their head
