One of the greatest TV shows ever featuring gunge and slime was Get Your Own Back, a show loved by many but what series was really the best!?

The original format of the show placed both the adult and the nominee over the Gunk Dunk, hard to believe this was the case where ultimately the adult would always get gunged though the grown up could get their own back if they could answer all of their questions correctly in which case both the adult and nominee would be dunked. Personally, the gunge was very watery which improved in later series though the games were fun.

The second series or Halloween themed Gunk Dunk was one of the best, the gunge was extremely thick, sometimes particulalrly nasty if black! What I liked here was that the adult got completely covered and the whole spooky theme worked really well and music to create suspense. The contestant wanting to get their own back on the grown up also ran the risk of getting gunged in a tank which had excellent gunge. I remember watching this when I was a kid and being afraid of the gunge tank and really didn't want to be in their shoes. Now of course, I'd gladly get gunged in the tank anyday. For every correctly answered question the adult managed to answer, a pumpkin would light up adding more tension to the scene. They had 45 seconds to answer all of the questions or they would be dunked. Again the adult would always get gunged.

The next series was the fairground season, one of the best where the whole set looked like a theme park. The added bonus here was that the person sat over the gunk dunk faced the possibility of being gunged not once, not twice but three times before then being dunked. This made for a very excting end to the show and added to the suspense. It was the first season not to feature the contestant getting gunged which didn't seem to do too much harm. This season's gunge was excellent though occasionally it missed the person's head sitting over the Gunk Dunk which was such a waste!

The next season continued for quite some time where the adult would be cranked upwards further away from the Gunk Dunk for every wrong answer they gave. Some of the games were really good, I remember the remote control car game and one game where adults were tied to a wall and had to try and stop the contestant delivering items into their basket for points. The series dunking was pretty straight forward and the gunge was nice and thick though I preferred the earlier series gunge.

After many years of the ramp format, the 2000 series was slightly modified so that the contestant could get gunged as well if they failed to answer a question correctly while sat in a chair positioned over the Gunk Dunk. They had the option of choosing lever A or B where they would either win a prize of be gunged from above. The adult would continue to be cranked up then dunked regardless of anything else. This seemed to work well.

The last few seasons I believe had a new format where two adults were sat above the Gunk Dunk and one of them would end up getting gunged. This sounds like a good idea but I was bored with this format though started not watching this at that point probably because I was getting older! Still never too old for GYOB.
