Spreadsheets and sanity

For Mark, it had been another endless day of analyzing spreadsheets in a stuffy conference room. The AC was barely keeping up, and the pressure from his bosses was palpable. When the clock finally struck 5 PM, he couldn't wait to escape the office and clear his head.
On his commute home, Mark took a detour. He parked his car near a neighborhood complex that featured a sparkling, enticing swimming pool. He walked up to the edge of the water, looking at his reflection in the perfect blue.
The impulse was sudden and overwhelming. Forgetting about his work attire, his wallet, or his phone, he took a deep breath. Without hesitation, Mark stepped right into the cool water.
The shock of the temperature was immediate and invigorating. His crisp button-down shirt and dress pants became heavy and dark as they soaked up the pool. But Mark didn't care. As he stood waist-deep, a huge, genuine grin spread across his face, a complete contrast to his serious office persona. For a few minutes, the spreadsheets and deadlines were forgotten. He felt completely free, a childlike thrill replacing his stress.
A woman walked by pushing a stroller, looking at him with an expression of pure bewilderment. Mark just laughed.
"Just taking a quick dip," he said, the water dripping off his slicked-back hair. It might have been weird, but it was exactly what he needed.
