So, I've finally removed the crummy search bar that was on the top right of the site. Now, search lives new the top center of every page, and it searches within the context of the page you're on. So if you use it on the forum, you'll get forum results. If you use it on the downloads page, you'll get downloads. You can manually change the type of search using the drop-down on the left of the search box if you want.
The only issue is what it'll search if you're, say, on the homepage or somewhere like that. This is where a "universal" search comes in, which aggregates searches from all searchable sources on the site, combined onto one page. That'll be the default in such circumstances, and it should be ready in a few days!
I've been working on various aspects of the universal search for forever now, but only recently have I finished updating ALL sections and modules of UMD so they can contribute to the universal search results page. If you see some weirdness on some random part of UMD, that's probably why! I'm still updating some things....
Removing search from UMD's blue header opens me up to march onward with UMD's responsive design for a lot of reasons, and I think it cleans the site up a little. The entire site is still tiny on mobile, but programmatically this was one major step I had to take before making a more mobile-friendly UMD.
