Although this story is fiction, I based it on an actual local TV news report. Names are changed from the station's actual anchors. Jim Kilcher had mixed feelings getting ready for that evening's 6:00 newscast. He was about to start a 2-week vacation as soon as he went off the air, but his co-anchor, Kathy So, was out on location doing a live remote. He wanted to be the one out there on location. Oh well. It came time to go "live" to Kathy (a 40ish petite Chinese woman who looked 10 years younger) at the grand opening of a new water park in town. She was broadcasting next to the pool at the base of a twisting inner tube slide. Her report was accompanied by taped footage of familes enjoying the slide, along with the lazy river ride and wave pool. Later in the newscast, Jim had to introduce the weather-lady, Jenny Pillette a young 30-something blonde, who was also doing her forecast live at the park. Then Jim had an evil thought. At the end of Jenny's weather report, he asked Jenny & Kathy if they were going to demonstrate that water slide for the viewing audience? They looked at each other, then themselves, realizing they were dressed as if they were back in the studio - not at a waterpark. Jenny had a blue pantsuit with blazer over a cream-colored silk blouse. Kathy had on a red skirt suit over a white blouse and nude panty hose. They both shrugged and let out a "Wel-l-l-l-l........." After sports and the final commercial break, it was customary to sign off the newscast with "one last look at the forecast". Viewers then see a long-shot close-up of Jenny & Kathy sitting in a double inner tube at the top of the slide. Jenny yells TOMORROW HIGH OF 87.........before the lifeguard gives them a push. The camera makes a failed attempt to follow them down the twisty slide, but catches the two coming out at the bottom - still in their suits (minus their shoes) - flipping over out of the tube and going under the water, with a crowd of onlookers applauding wildly. Back at the studio, off the air, Jim was grinning like the Cheshire Cat, thinking what a great vacation he was going to have.
