Recipe for disaster...

YO (ho ho - since its Christmas)... I often get asked what I use to make my gunge so I thought I would blog my messy recipe! It's really pretty straight forward and cheap as chips..

You'll need:

100g Xanthum Gum - you will find this in the larger ASDA stores, Sainsburys and certain health food stores. - "I can't find it in my store" - Xanthum Gum is a gluten free binder and you'll find it in the Gluten Free section or the home baking section in the aforementioned supermarkets. £2.50 per 100g

1 large bucket - holding 6-8 litres - The smaller the amount of water, the thicker the consistency. I've tried both measurements and personally preferred 100g for 6 litres as it made super thick and bright gunge.

Warm tap water (NO PRIIIICE)

Bottle of poster paint (colour of your choice) £1 Asda

A hand held food blender

Fill your bucket with hot water from the tap (DO NOT use boiling water from the kettle as the gunge takes ages to cool down because of its thickness). Add your entire bottle of poster paint, the more you add, the less transparent your mixture will be. Stir well with a wooden spoon or similar long handled kitchen utensil. Gradually add a small amount of Xanthum Gum bit by bit whilst using your hand held blender to mix it in. You'll notice the consistency will start to thicken slightly and you might be thinking "there's no way 100g is enough for this amount of water" but trust me.. it is. Before you know it, you will have a bucket of thick gloopy goodness ready for play. Depending on the temperature of your mixture, you may want to allow it to cool slightly before use. No scalding yourselves please.

So if you're already the proud owner of a bucket or two and a hand held blender, you're in luck as this fine recipe will set you back just £3.50 for 6-8 litres. So if you fancied a "wee" session with a massive 32 litres of goopy colourful mess, it would cost you £14.00. I personally don't see the point in purchasing Natrasol when you can make amazing gunge for a fraction of the price. When I made the 6 litres, it was so wonderfully thick and gave full coverage.

Happy gunging.
