As she ran, the sky darkened and a light rain began to fall. With one careless misstep, she stumbled and fell straight into a muddy hollow in the forest--

Cool, soft mud instantly wrapped around her arms and soaked into her skirt. She instinctively tried to struggle, but when her palms pressed against the smooth, warm earth beneath, she froze.
It was not the filth or horror she had imagined, but a strangely wonderful sensation--soft, silky, carrying the scent of the land. Raindrops gently tapped the muddy surface, forming ripples, and she couldn't help tracing them with her fingertips.
"So this is what it feels like?"
Raised within towering palace walls, she had never truly touched the earth before. She slowly buried her hands into the mud, then lifted them, watching it slip through her fingers. It was cool, yet somehow comforting.

She simply sat down, letting her skirt stain freely, even stepping lightly in the muddy water. The splashes made her laugh out loud--her first genuine laugh since her escape began.
"Perhaps it's not so terrible."
