My Intro to Gunging.

My first foray into gunging was a solo effort in my bathroom 10 years ago. Smartly dressed with 8 buckets of natrosol, I remember my heart racing with excitement as I was getting ready for the session. The feeling of that cold, slimy liquid pouring over me, finding its way inside my shirt through the collar, covering my trousers, was wonderful.

Although it was my first go at being gunged I knew that I was going to enjoy it, so there was no question about me really going for it. I'd found The Gunge Club only a month or so before and was inspired by the pictures posted there. I miss The Gunge Club. I remember when I first came across it, I felt like a child in a sweetie shop going through all the albums. The content was amazing.

I'd decided to take pictures of this self-gunging. The funny thing is, this session was the first of two gunge sessions (and a wet clothed session) where I used a 35mm film camera. So I had to psych myself for the fact that I would have to take the film to a processing shop to have the photos developed. But who cares what someone might think when they've probably seen the photos of you covered in slop, right? You do what you have to do.

The following day, after scanning all the pictures, I posted them onto The Gunge Club. The unexpected result of this was receiving an invite from Dave the Manager to have him reward me by pouring more buckets of gunge over me. Invitation accepted!

Such a special occasion called for added smartness. I was to be gunged wearing shirt, trousers and tie, as well as a waistcoat to round it all off. I was gunged with cornflour mixed with water and coloured with poster paint. I recall it being very cold and had really good coverage.

My lovely waistcoat however didn't stand a chance of surviving!
