Mark's cheeky grin

The summer sun was relentless, the kind of heat that made the pavement shimmer and the air feel like a thick blanket. Mark stood at the edge of the pool, his dark polo and chinos already absorbing the midday glare. Most people would have spent the last ten minutes meticulously folding their clothes and hunting for trunks, but Mark wasn't most people.
He didn't hesitate. With a grin and a sudden stride, he walked straight down the shallow steps.
The initial shock of the cool water hitting his shins was refreshing, but as he waded deeper, the sensation changed. The fabric of his trousers billowed out before sticking firmly to his skin, growing heavy with the weight of the pool. By the time the water reached his chest, his polo was completely saturated, turning a shade darker and clinging to his shoulders.
He took a deep breath and dunked his head under, emerging with a splash that sent ripples across the turquoise surface. As he stood there in the center of the pool, fully submerged up to his waist, he wiped the chlorine-scented water from his eyes and slicked back his hair. The heat was gone, replaced by the satisfying, heavy chill of wet cotton and denim.
Mark leaned back, letting the water support the extra weight of his clothes. It wasn't just a swim; it was a total reset. He looked toward the house, a mischievous light in his eyes, knowing he'd eventually have to explain the dripping trail he was about to leave across the patio--but for now, the cool water was exactly where he needed to be.
