It was 1973. I'm 48 now, you do the math. It was a "backyard picnic" at a bar in Afton WI. One of the attractions which caught my eye was kids lining up to get into one of two (Yes, TWO) dunk tanks. Most had on shorts and/or T-shirts over their bathing suits. Some were fully dressed in jeans and shirts and what really caught my attention were some girls wearing what was probably their Sunday School dresses. I was in jeans and a Tshirt, but I still wanted to get in on this fun. I ran to my Aunt (who I was with that day, but she said NO! Your mother would kill me!) Turns out she wouldn't cared a bit, but it was too late then. She was actually my grandfather's sister-in-law, my dad's aunt, but I'm digressing. I still sat there and watched all the other kids having fun getting wet in their clothes. Our neighbors also had a pool, and the kids their would often tell us how much fun they had swimming in their pajamas or while wearing windbreaker jackets (how they would puff up like a balloon in the water). Only got a couple of invitations to join them, but wore nothing more than a T-shirt over swim trunks. It was until the early 90s, when a letter in Playboy Advisor led me to the Messy Fun website and found an entire internet community of wet clothes and other WAM websites. Ironically, despite that first day in 1973 being intrigued by those girls in their Sunday School attire, today I am not a big fan of wet dresses or evening gowns. I'll make an exception for cheerleader outfits or mini-skirts which show off legs.
