competitorBy Mr MitchellPosted 5/11/13 1269 views
I am often asked in my role as Hockey coach, "what makes a good competitor"? In short I think it is someone with a good attitude and a fierce desire to win at every thing. That kind of attitude/mindset in someone does not come along often enough. People may say "but I do have that attitude", but are they for the correct reasons? Sadly sometimes their not. I read a blog from a neuroscientists who spoke of soul goals and ego projects, and mentioned a question you should ask yourself to define the two. When Up against a task that might need a certain level of commitment and motivation needed, ask yourself am I doing this because I want to enjoy doing something I like? or do I want to do this because I will enjoy telling people about this? There is a fine line because it's human nature to tell others of your achievements, but if your thinking I will enjoy telling people about this later then I think you May not be in the best mental place to get all you can from it. To explain what I'm getting at, what will truly make you happy? Telling people what you have done or knowing you done all you could to succeed at something you enjoy.
This is only my opinion on this subject and I do think there is a lot more to the mental side of it (like sticking at it when it gets tough) but I'll save that for another day. If you found this interesting please feel free to add any thoughts you have on the subject, and get the old noodles working
