Blizzard BeachBy Blaze68Posted 10/23/22 462 views
Back in the 90's when Disney opened Blizzard Beach we were in Florida on a family vacation and decided to check it out even though the weather was particularly cool for that kind of activity (Last week of January) So we took the kid over and on his insistence took swim stuff, but Suzy and I decided it was too cold for us, so we just let him have at it until he was tired.
As we were getting ready to head out, Suzy spotted one of the water slide attendants, a 20 something girl coming down the water slide fully dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt. A few minutes later she was smiling and toweling her hair as she came by us and just smiled and said "Job perk!" to us. Suzy looked at me and smiled and we caught up with the girl on the way out of the park. Quick conversation and she told us that they really didn't like people in clothes in the water, but it happens, and nobody cared as long as there were no rivets in your jeans to gouge the slides and no street shoes. Suzy squeezed my hand and smiled at me and I knew, "Here we go!"
2 days later there's frost on everything ans we head out, and it's dreary and sprinkling all morning. In the main park we go into Country Bear Jamboree to grab a seat and a rest, and ran into some friends with their boys. By the time we left, our son was with them for the rest of the day, armed with 20 bucks and some speed passes, so we were on our own. Typically, she grabbed my hand and dragged me to Splash Mountain with a big smile on her face. Being cool out kept the lines down considerably and our Speed Pass got us right on. First time, right up front, sprayed a little; second time, up front, she insists we lean forward, now we're wet, third time we end up in the back, now we're good and wet, one more time, with a bunch of already wet college girls, and we're all literally soaked! The girls were in t-shirts, obviously doing a little flashing, and went to a pile of dry hoodies and fleece when they got off. We were in jeans and hoodies with turtleneck sweaters underneath, the outer layer soaked pretty good. As we were leaving she grabbed my hand and we stood with another group of kids in the splash zone on the bridge below the ride, "Just once" she said.....
We had enough and headed for the busses and their warm interior. Wrong bus, not 5 minutes to the hotel, full circuit around the whole place first. Second stop, 2 women sit down across from us, look us over and ask if we came from Blizzard Beach. " Nope, the main park" we told them and Suzy chimes in, "Blizzard Beach is next" and squeezed my hand. They told us they were going there too, and as the bus pulled up, we all got off. The other 2 went to the changing rooms as we stashed our valuables and shoes in a locker. As we turned around, both were standing there, dressed in spandex running tights and long sleeve turtleneck tops, telling us their "swim suits" were their wet weather running gear. "Stash the hoodies" one told us, and we rolled the now damp sweatshirts up and put them in the lockers too. Off we went, and as Suzy pointed out lots of people in the pool wearing sweat shirts, windbreakers, etc. and headed that way, one of the ladies told us to follow them. We ended up going up to the water slide and climbed to the top. Without any hesitation, each of the two went down the slide in their running gear, and our turn came up. The female attendant looked us over kind of funny and looked like she was about to say something about how we were dressed, and suddenly smiled and said to Suzy "Oh, you're going to try it too?" As she checked us out and pronounced "No rivets in your jeans-have fun!" followed by "Make sure your jeans are good and wet before you let go so you'll slide better."
Suzy plopped down on the slide and inched her butt up into the water and said it was warm, and let go - and down she went. The girl smiled at me and said "Ready?" and I did pretty much the same thing. I popped up in the pool as Suzy was with the other 2 women and they informed me we were going again. They also told us that spandex slid faster....
So, half a dozen more fully clothed trips, and we took a break and then went to the wave pool for a bit because it was warmer in the water than out of it. It seemed everyone in there , and there weren't many people at all, were in some state of being half dressed because of the weather, so we really didn't get too many strange looks.
It got to be around that time when everyone was getting ready to leave and the women wanted one more trip down the water slide, so off we went. As we got to the top, the same attendant was there and told us it was lucky she saw us coming because she was about to close. One by one we sat down, got wet and went down the slide. At the bottom, the attendant yelled to us that we could go once more if we hurried, so up we went, and down we went - followed by the attendant in low cut jeans and a wind shirt over a cotton turtleneck.
We all went to the restrooms and dried our hair as best we could under the hand driers, grabbed our stuff and the other 2 threw their clothes on over their now almost dry spandex, then we headed for the warm bus. 5 minutes later while the attendant remained in her seat waiting for the next stop, the 4 of us got off the bus at our hotel. Walking down the hall to the elevator, Suzy glanced at the indoor pool and stopped dead. "Nobody in there" she said. Less than a minute later we were all in the pool, taking off only our shoes before we hit the water. The other 2, who were pretty much dry, never even she their clothes, they just jumped it with what they had on.
The fun didn't last long though because a staff member showed up and threw us out of the pool because of our clothes, so we headed to our rooms. Suzy checked on the kid and he was having dinner, so we took a fully clothed shower and had some locked door bathroom sex just in case he showed up.
She threw our wet clothes in with the rest of the laundry and took it to the laundry room removing all evidence of our adventure.
A couple days later we managed to do almost the same thing, but only briefly (2 quick slides) at the end of the day , without any other company but the female attendant, along with a male attendant who was there to work the weekend. We all wondered if the other 2 women had gone home.
Later that night we went to the park for the fireworks and it was cold and rainy, but we went anyway, bundled for the weather. Damp and done in denim and sweaters, we got on the monorail which was packed to standing room only. Never even noticed them until we got off and we noticed each other. Brief conversation and one says "The pool is heated - and no kids at this hour" We were tired and Suzy told them "We'll see" motioning to the kid, who we had to obviously attend to. "Okay, maybe later" one said as we parted.
We kind of spoke in parsed phrases on the elevator so Junior didn't catch on, and pretty much agreed we couldn't. But as the elevator door opened and we turned to go to the room, Jimmy, our son's new friend saw him and next thing we knew we were childless for the night because a bunch of kids were having a sleepover in the suite Jimmy' family had.
The propane heaters were going when we got to the pool area but I doubt they were necessary. We were dressed for the cool rainy weather that felt like April in New England. We sat under a pop up tent with the other 2 women and had a couple stiff Jack and cokes and a few laughs. After a bit, someone, and I can't remember who, mentioned the time and that we should get to it.
This time there was no spandex to contend with - off came the shoes and sneakers and it was nothing but denim and turtleneck sweaters in the pool! Suzy and I we as usually, dressed almost alike in levis, denim jackets and thicker ribbed cotton sweaters, and neither one of us even bothered taking off the jackets. The other 2 were in tight fitting high waisted jeans as well, one wore one of those sweaters with the really high neck and the extra long sleeves that you cuff back to mid forearm, the other had a plain black sweater under an oversize light blue mans shirt. Not one of us made any inference or attempt to remove any clothing at all. We just went in.
And that was that - 20 or so minutes in the pool, out for a drink, and then a "final, final" and we grabbed towels and headed for our rooms. Same routine as the last time, clothed shower, bathroom sex, laundry, and sleep.
We checked out and headed home later the next morning with some secret memories of how we "actually" spent our vacation.
