A return to the 'welly path'

So yesterday I went on another walk on the 'welly path' I described in my last blog. I actually hadn't been there since, it's amazing how time flies by sometimes! I decided I might get muddy again, so I prepared by packing rainwear and an extra set of clothes just in case. I wore normal clothes - jeans and a green t-shirt, and put on my black hunters for the path.

What I hadn't told is that this path actually contains two routes. I started this time by walking the route that I hadn't taken before. It was mostly forest, a few fields and some creeks. I considered creek jumping, but decided not yet. I also walked past a small bit just off the path that seemed to have a nice amount of mud. I considered jumping in, but waited. 'Not yet', I told myself.

I then went on to walk the route I'd walked before, but came to an unpleasant surprise when there was no mud! It had all dried up I suppose. I was disappointed, but decided to walk back the other route, this time in reverse direction. I came across the muddy bit and tested it with my wellie, which sank in pretty deep almost instantly! I decided to put my rainpants and raincoat on (a yellow raincoat this time by Elka) and step in. The mud was up to my thighs and very heavy - I was stuck! Thankfully I didn't panic and just sat down, slowly pulling my legs out one by one. The mud was already up to my bottom and inside my wellies and rainpants. I then discovered that it wasn't actually too bad if I were sitting or laying down in it - distributing the weight evenly prevented me from sinking too far. So I laid down in the mud and rolled around, the mud getting all over and inside my raincoat. It was kind of awesome to think that there was nobody around, just me rolling in the mud and getting very dirty.

After some time I pulled myself out (with some effort) and went on the path. I came across the creek again and decided to jump over it. Well, the creek was quite obviously way too wide, so I landed right in the middle of it. I waded to the other side, then realized I left my bag with clean clothes on the other side. Of course I could have easily walked around it, but that was not an option at that moment. So I jumped in again, this time also swimming around for a bit.

At the end, I changed out of my (very wet and muddy) clothes and boots, and into relatively clean ones. I resisted the urge to immediately jump in the mud in those clothes again, and went home instead.

Pics of the walk can be seen on my profile!
