I was sitting down and sorting my wam folder as one does, and well it takes a while to sort almost a TB of porn, but I digress, I was looking at some of the older wam in my collection, Lenny, Neil, Rob Blaine, Phoebe etc. and I was just sort of sitting there and reflecting.

You don't think about them past their wam lives/personas. For a lot of these folks, I can only assume WAM was a very small part of who they were. We don't think about how they were off site, and what kind of people they were, just how they wore or threw a pie.

I don't want to become hyper philosophical, but to say that a lot of these folks were instrumental in shaping my fetish, and contributing to the the man I am today is an understatement.

A little about me, I didn't get the internet until I was 15.

I spend that night, browsing the internet for midis (I had no idea mp3's were a thing) dragon ball pics to sketch at school the next day, and I started to get the itch. I wanted to see if I was alone. So I serarched pie in the face. AOL search gave me a weak listing, but at the very top was piefightgirls.com.

I went there, and after losing my collective prepubesent mind, I stumbled on to mamon the old japanese site, then wambabes, messyfun, mudpuddlevisuals and finaly the UMD. I had to wait three VERY excrutiating years but I joined on my 18th b-day (Though I was lurking daily, sorry Derek.) The idea of clicking I consent and am 18 or older felt very naughty.

I actually almost missed the bus that morning because I had gotten so into the act that I literally forgot that is was still a Wednesday night. So I went to school, and with no sleep I couldn't tell you what happened that day, but I will never forget that night.

I was just curious how many here have similar stories? What happened when you first got the net? What was your first search? Your first site?

I too have a bunch of old sploshing stuff, but it is not all digital. Somewhere in an outbuilding here is a box full of old Splosh!, Messyfun and other early producers' VHS tapes that I saved with the idea that one day I may digitize them (kind of like that old Camaro from high school you see in the background of some videos that I may one day restore; also deteriorating in quality and equally as unlikely). l also have a decent collection of Splosh! magazines I mail ordered to the USA back in the day. Intercepting the mail before my parents could see it was always an adventure

I, like most in the pre-internet days, assumed I was the only freak into such things. I may be a bit different than others though in that I started doing my own sploshing shoots back in high school. My brother is a bit older and had a decent 35mm SLR camera that I adopted when I took a photography class in high school. Around that same time I got my first "real" girlfriend. Her parents happened to have a house in a semi rural area with an in ground pool. That led to my first wetlook shoot with her. She was game to do messy stuff so when her parents went out of town, we broke out the pies and slime! It was really a learning curve in those days. I remember making a mess in her kitchen by lifting a running electric mixer up while making green slime (I was not a particularly intelligent teen and had no cooking experience). I also remember dropping a chocolate pie in the house while excitedly carrying things outside and having to figure out how to get that out of her parents' carpet. May be part of my aversion to indoor sploshing now And remember that this was back in the 35mm film days, digital photography was not an option. While I could do B&W photography at home by this point, color was way out of my price range. So all the sploshing shoots I did had to be developed at the local pharmacy's photo center. Much like intercepting the mail, picking those up was always a bit of an awkward thrill!

As for the digital, I am old enough to remember the old dial up days on AOL. I have a very disorganized collection of things I found on various hard drives. Actually, I remember buying a 100 MB Zip Drive (think that's what it was called) to put my collection on at the time. I am a bit hazy on the order and names, but I think there was something called the Messy Kingdom and Shokolada's Mess that I stumbled on first, then ended up on Derek's (Messmaster's) early version of this site. He was into music and was working on something he called Nocturnal Theory. He would have to fill in the actual details on this, but if I am remembering correctly, that somehow morphed into the UMD. On a side note, I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Maryland's postal abbreviation is MD. Up to that point, if you said UMD to me I would have thought you were talking about the University of Maryland

So life happens and things with my highschool sweetheart had ended. I am now in college. While still broke as a joke, I did have more independence by then to do what I wanted. I still had my brother's 35mm SLR (which I now considered mine) and a new adventurous girlfriend. She was game for sploshing and so began my Messy Toni days. I knew nothing (and still lack knowledge) about website design. I did have a boat anchor of a computer with a Pentium 1 and a dial up connection. In those days you could opt for a digital copy of your 35mm film prints that came on a 3.5" floppy disc. I had done that with the Toni shoots and some how got to chatting with Derek about it. He said he would make a website and host it if I sent him the pics. So started my venture into this digital sploshing world. And if you think this forum is rough now, my god you should have seen the early days!! I was unaware of the forum at the time (remember technology was all new to us at one point), but was aware of chatrooms from AOL which were very popular at the time. I saw that there was a chat room on the UMD and popped in to check it out. That was when someone informed me of the forum's existence. The reason they informed me of it was because there was quite a heated argument going on there as to whether my girlfriend was actually a man. Way to make a newbie posting free content feel welcomed!

We ended up sticking around despite the less than warm welcome and went on to make more posts. We got to know Derek and he even came to our house to serve as videographer on a weekend of messy shoots! And as it does, life goes on and things change. Toni and I split up after college and lost touch as time went by. Fast forward many years and Andi and I now have a great life together, with sploshing being a small part of it that we share

It is super early in the morning here so hopefully that all came out coherent. And like I said, some memories are a bit hazy. Hopefully I didn't bore you too much with old fart memories

Back in the day if you were on the web it was through your phone line, so you couldn't receive calls, if you didn't have a dedicated line for internet (I didn't). I was in grad school and had a job as a teaching assistant for a European History class. I had an important meeting scheduled with my professor and the other TA one afternoon. But I was much more interested in going through WAMTEC's cliptape list and marveling about all the mainstream scenes I could finally see again.Marking down which tapes I wanted to buy. I totally lost track of time, but I finally got off the web, and my phone started ringing. It was the professor-- I was half an hour late for our meeting and he had been trying to call me but couldn't get through. "Where are you?!" I made up some excuse and ran down to campus for the meeting.

Oh heck yeah. I would venture to guess that there are several on here that remember this. And the alt.binaries. One too. It was THE way to get lots of pics. Even though it took a minute or better to download each one. Click download on several pics, go to bed, hope everything stays connected!

I remember it well. 1995, I was 27 years old, and just got my first ever modem, so I could connect to this "Internet" thing that the TV news was just starting to report on. Signed up with Compuserve. First few searches were for computer and tech related stuff, but stumbled across Compuserve's kink forums. Joined, and found a post from someone asking about "dunking", which they defined as "watching or going into the water with women, all fully clothed." One of the replies was from someone called "Rob Blaine" who owned something called "Messy Fun" and the rest is history. He's the one who told me about a.s.f.w-a-m, which had only just been created after a whole bunch of people stormed alt.config saying "we need alt.sex.fetish.wet-and-messy now!", which meant the mgroup went through unopposed shortly afterwards. It had a brilliant couple of years before, along with much of the alt.sex.fetish section of USENET, degenerating into a cesspit of endless spam. For a while users had a convention that on-topic posts would all have subject lines starting WAM so the rest of the spam could be easily filtered out, but of course you had to be in the know to know this.

Meanwhile the WWW was starting to become a thing, though with really primitive browsers, and only really basic formatting and layout options. HTML 3.2 was revolutionary!

Then there was a mailing list run by someone who called himself "The Messy Photographer", and then someone started a link site connecting WAM sites together, and called it the "Ultimate Messy Directory". Hmm, those initials look strangely familiar...

It was a totally different world in the 90s. There were no micropayment services, there was no eBay, no Google. Businesses could advertise by setting up websites and people searched using the AltaVista search engine, but WAM trade was strictly still VHS video cassettes and DVDs, and sending money to someone in another country by cheque took weeks to clear through the banks. It's really amazing how far we've come in the last 27 years.

Oh man...some memories here. Though I don't remember the early days of UMD being "rough" by any stretch. We were so lassaiz faire I was shocked when Brain from Crazygirls was run off for his red/white/blue gunge post-9/11 solidarity shoot. It was a fun place back then.

So once I understood search engines (you couldn't just type a search term into the URL bar at the time) I tried what everyone else did and stumbled across Aqua Entertainment, Shokolada's Mess, Bill's Pie Page, Messy Toni, Neil's stuff, Rob Blaine's stuff, Phoebe, WAMF, Wambabes, and eventually the UMD.

The computer lab was too risky to really explore because the a-hole lab manager used to literally walk the lab and look over people's shoulders to make sure they weren't breaking any rules.

So I had to make friends with the three guys in the barracks (3 of about 110 dudes) who had computers and sacrifice a night out every now and again for a few hours of...surfing.

Thank god none of them knew anything about cookies and search history. Or if they did, thank god they hooked a brother up by staying quiet.

I remember the 1.57 MB clip from Ariel's Pie Shop (I think Aqua Entertainment?) that took about 90 minutes to download and play lol. And I used to order Hurley's Clip Tapes, Messyfun videos, and Phoebe's VHS tapes by dropping a check in the mail and waiting WEEKS for them to arrive. Then I'd have to pretend they were home movies sent from my cousins lol.

I was also the guy who recommended to Robby that WLP sign up for this new service called "PayPal" that lets you take money online.

I never transfer stuff to new computers so I always lose everything every few years. Theres a few faves i always manage to transfer but I think my oldest is Slimecam from House of Slime. A lot of the newer stuff is way better tho so I don't mind.

My most vivid early memory was scouring Yahoo Groups for messy clips. There were a few that I frequented, but a lot of the videos were out of reach because for whatever reason, if the file took longer than a minute or so to download, it failed. On a 56k modem, that made a bunch of the videos simply too big to attempt (though I obviously tried anyway lol), and those I could get were compressed nigh beyond recognition.

I forget how I came across UMD - that was probably close to 15 years ago - but I remember being awed at the wealth of links it had. I lurked for almost 10 years before joining the discourse this year.

My story starts in Yahoo Groups (r.i.p), 2003-2004. I was on 3 or 4 groups about women getting pie in the face. Shit internet, it was dial-up. So around 2005/2006, I entered in this forum for the first time.

1st site Pievids(boom) what a perfect site, then PFG, MessyGirl, MessyFun, SillyFilms, Wamtec, SStuff and much more.

I was only 16 years old, I didn't even know there was a fetish with pies. I remeber watch all the trailers, pictures, but living in another country and without an international card, I was never able to buy the videos. Only able to buy one video, which was from DirtyMuse "Bad Instinct part1".

I'd have to go digging. Essentially it was a site that offered vids, where the models did mostly paint (full coverage including eyes) there was one girl that was covered in a mound of cream and chocolate, I always remember that one.

Most of their vids were still available online but the site that hosted them was a Japanese Fetish Video site called R16 or something similar and it shut down a few months ago. Not sure who has the rights to distribute them anymore.

I'll toss in my two cents, seeing as the other comments were bringing back memories. My origin goes back to CompuServe, back in the pre-web days at around 15 or 16 years old in 1990-ish. Initially stumbled into a forum that had some pretty basic adult images. Not too long into that discovery, I stumbled upon some basic fetish stuff and the realization that I wasn't the only messy play enthusiast (seems like a common thing in this thread). I'm pretty sure this was in the DOS version of Compuserve Information Manager (CIM), before the Windows version existed. Amusingly, the thing I remember most, on what was probably a 1200 or (at best) 2400 baud modem at the time was how Compuserve's native GIF format was an interlaced image that would download alternating lines from top to bottom in their app, slowly filling in the image with pass after pass from top to bottom. It was a process that was such a tease in and of itself, with pass after pass of an image coming down the slow modem connection. More times than not, once you got half the lines down and ended up disappointed in various images, you'd jump back before it even had enough time to download more than half of it, to move onto the next image of possible interest. It's funny how long GIF has hung on simply due to its frame animation capabilities, with most people not realizing it's actually a still image format, too. Back at the time, the 256 color format limitation wasn't a particular problem.

Through CompuServe, and eventually local BBS's and local ISPs, I eventually dug into USENET in the couple years leading to the launch of the web. Ah, the good ol' days of Netmanage Chameleon (whose website from the 90s is still online, btw, with the download even still working). Pretty sure it was either USENET or maybe even some specialized BBS that led to eventually discovering some VHS stuff like Crazy Girls and Rob Blaine, etc. And yeah, I remember sending checks in the mid-90s for VHS tapes ordered from b&w printed tape lists, which would show up weeks later (if you were lucky). And geez, the prices on a lot of those tapes would be high even today, without inflation adjustment. Though it was certainly understandable with the limited market and distribution and effort involved in the process.

And yeah, it eventually led to discovering more and more online stuff, including only being a lurker on UMD for the first decade or so. Been a fan of other sites/sellers/producers over the decades. I know a lot of the younger folks probably read all this and just roll their eyes at "the good ol' days". While that's surely a part of it, It's a bit more than just that, though. I'd be the first to admit that much of it was such a hassle, particularly compared to how easy it all is today. However, it was fascinating to see and experience how things progressed and evolved. It's fascinating for that reason alone. Like, I'm sure it was super trippy to be alive at the turn of the 20th century, when industry and technology was changing radically year-by-year and decade-by-decade. I'm curious to see what the porn experience curve will be for the next generation. VR & AR are showing lots of promise. And while folks like to scoff at the "metaverse" (at least the "Meta" version of it), I do think there's a solid chance of that progressing to a pretty wild level of experience. And while porn has always been an obvious genre for such technology, I'm definitely curious to see where it goes. Honestly, while I don't use my Quest 2 super-frequently, I do wish there was more fetish material shot for it, particularly messy play. It's a corner of modern tech/production that WAM seems to have barely touched.

Anyway, that's my meandering bits of nostalgia to add to the thread. Long live the digital future of WAM.
