I'm desperate to get back into the mud!! Quarry mud specifically! But is it warm enough yet?! Temperatures this weekend (7/3) are suggesting day time of 15 degrees Celsius high and early morning temperatures of 6/7. I can't wait any longer to be covered, but also need to be safe! Anyone out there who ventures into the winter mud? Advice welcome Thanks
I'll start by asking the simplest question : Where abouts in the UK are you based? ( that would help so I and others could point you towards a local mud location or quarry ) As for the weather some days are better than others but we could always do with more sun so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the message! So I have a couple of locations I travel to. I'm in Birmingham. On in Leicestershire and one near reading. Both are really creamy mud and private. I'm just itching to go again but not sure what outside temperatures I should've waiting for before I go diving head first into waist deep mud
Hey Messy, I know how you feel! I've been getting muddy quite regularly over the winter, I pick a mild day say anything above 10C and it's fine to get muddy in. You can't obviously wallow for hours and I don't have really deep mud to sink totally in, but I plan with a change of dry clothes , just running stuff to swiftly change into, that way you won't get too cold. Message me with any good quarries, that's what I need to try next.
I agree with what Matt said, although deep mud can be colder the deeper you go down so its not advisable getting too carried away, and the current weather we are having here in the UK is currently not suitable for muddy action or getting cleaned up afterwards.
I would suggest you use this time to explore and search out new locations to then explore once warmer, would suggest you check out the Mud map.
As has been said, using the colder time to plan for warmer messy times seems the best route to go at the moment, particularly with another slightly colder snap about to hit. I have done winter mud in the past, and wore a wetsuit and neoprene socks to keep at least a little warm... and then when I had got muddy, a good nylon coat or waterproofs over the top to keep everything warm until a clean-up was possible.
I went for a walk end of Jan to see what an old mud spot was like. It was cold so wasn't planning to go in but ended up naked and waist deep, was very very cold rinsing off in the river but worth. Hoping to go back either this weekend or next. (North wales)
