A plea: Would people organising splunches and other WAM events please stop putting them in the middle of peak mud season.
This coming summer there are now three events I know about, all within the mid-May to mid-July high summer mud season. Those of us who shoot outdoor mud in the UK generally only get May to July, as frequently the weather changes after Midsummer and becomes a lot less predictable, and once August is over it gets cold really fast.
I did some calculations last night based on our regular shooting pattern - if we were to attend all the events now planned, and all those weekends have good weather that we could otherwise have used for shooting - that's over a thousand pounds per model in model fees that our people will miss out on, plus mud is actually the favourite form of WAM for all of our models. It's nice to be in a pub with fellow sploshers, but it's nicer to be rolling in liquid mud under a blazing sun.
Ideally, "UK Splunch Season" should be from September to April, when it'll never be warm enough for outdoor shoots.
Here are some samples from unreleases scenes we shot between May and July, last year.
If only we could kill two birds with one stone and have a social event with mud! OK, I know the logistics would be a nightmare, but it's a fun thought.

People have tried to do that in the past, but a bit later in the year and most of the time the weather failed to co-operate. It's not really practical for modelled shoots though. What prompted this thread was realising just how much in fees some of our people would miss out on if I went to all the planned events - which I would like to do - instead of shooting those days. Wouldn't be fair. So unless it happens to chuck it down on those weekends, I'm unlikely to be at London or Leeds, even though the latter is on our doorstep.

Looks like a perfect setup for the filthiest beach party ever, to me: Set up a barbecue and a few beer coolers a bit in from the shore, send the girls out in turns to take their official session pics, then make a few pounds on top by letting a few lonely pervs get commemorative pics taken in the mud with their favorites .

A good point! Have you ever looked at othe locations? Further south could give you a longer window and perhaps the privicy to do some more X-themed vids?

id come to this, always said if i win the lottery im setting up a mudding park, big rigs, beers and mud, whats not to love
The problem would be the cold. Even on a hot UK day, once someone's been wet and muddy for a short while they are going to start feeling the chill and want to get clean, dry, and warm. And even with climate change effects, we still don't get that many genuinely hot days. Most of those mud events you see in videos from the US are from Southern states that have much hotter weather than we do.

Unless "further south" involved moving our entire household to France or Spain, wouldn't make much difference TBH, and we shoot in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire because this is where we live. Lottery win? I'm moving to Las Vegas where even the wind is hot, and building my own mud spa.
All of this is rather off topic though - the point is, if someone organises a "sit in a pub and chat" event on a date within the relatively short time-window that could otherwise have been used for outdoor shooting, they're potentially taking income away from models. And in this scene it's mostly the models who really need every earning opportunity they can get.
I'd just like those organising events and splunches to take this into account when selecting dates, it may not have occured to people who don't do outdoor shoots.

True! I didn't intend to derail the topic, it was just a natural place for my brain to go when the dual concepts of mudding season and social events were raised. And priorities are always going to be a little different between working producers/models, actively WAMming enthusiasts and WAM media fans, but it would make sense for Splunch type events to try and be attractive to all.
What a thought-provoking thread. I'd never thought of the "mud season" before! What a wonderful idea! Hope that every day of the season is good. Wish I could be a mud model. I know what you're thinking, but dreams are dreams. Peter
