The last Monday in May is a Bank Holiday in the UK. Traditionally many people spend such holidays annoying their neighbours with a deafening cacophony of power tools and garden machines, but it has long been tradition out here in wild Langstonedale that we find more interesting ways to entertain ourselves. Which is how Felicity and Maude, the former in jeans and white t-shirt and the latter in denim dungarees and white t-shirt, both with rather nice Dunlop wellies on, found themselves taking turns to push each other over into the slopiest mud we could find! Alas I entirely failed to grab any clean and dry pics on my phone (there is of course a full set on the Nikon), but I think these give a bit of an idea of the ensuing muddy mayhem.
Scene queued for future release on Langstonedale, date yet to be set.
God I wish there were SOMEWHERE around here that got like that. If there were, it's so damn urbanite here that it would stink to high hell. There are plenty of rural areas in Eastern PA, but those waterways all flow past the cities too...AND a nuclear power plant.

You need a coastal tidal river with a good tide range, down in Lincolnshire around Marsh House we have good tidal ranges that are actually higher than out at Spurn Point on the coast, due to the funnelling effect of the rivers. Large parts of the East Coast are built on mud which is steadily eroding (and has been for thousands of years) - unless you head up Insmouth way which is all solid rock but comes with its own complications - this results in a very brown water column and fresh silt deposits with every tide, which is why our mudbanks are never the same twice. Always fantastic to play in but completely different every time.

I swear some times the biggest advantage of living on a country estate instead of in the city isn't the stunning scenery or beautiful 600 year old buildings, but just that you can step into the grounds on a summer Sunday afternoon and not be instantly assaulted by the combined revvings of 2000 lawnmowers all going at once!
You and Candy really should come up and have a play in our mud some time.

Thanks! Alas we don't offer snuggling sessions (now there's a thought! ) but hoping to shoot plenty more with both girls this summer if the weather holds, plus several others too.
