I have a 5 gallon bucket with a simple toilet flapper valve I have used for years. Decided to make an updated version today. We usually hang the bucket from a tree limb which can make it a bit tricky to fill depending on the height. This new version will be self filling (for lack of a better term).

Supplies:
5 Gallon Bucket
Universal Toilet Fill Valve
Flush Valve Repair Kit
Water Supply Line (7/8" Ballcock to 1/2" FIP)
3/4" MHT x 1/2" MIP Adapter
3/4" FHT x 3/4" FHT Adapter

Tools:
Power Drill
1/2" and 2" Hole Saw

First I drilled holes in the bucket for the flapper valve and fill valve, and installed them. Then it was just a matter of hooking the supply line to the fill valve. The adapters allow this set up to be attached to a standard 3/4" garden hose

Thanks! It worked really well The only modification I want to make is to drill a hole towards the edge of the lip for the release cable to feed through so it doesn't become tangled in the fill valve.


Don't know a way to make it self filling, but if you just want to have it dump slime you just need to drill an adequate size hole and add a flapper valve

Here's a few pics from a dry run (no pun intended). I did add the hole for the release cable I talked about. With the fill valve at its highest setting, the bucket fills to about 3/4's full which should be plenty for a decent soaking. We are on a 300 foot deep well here so it is going to be a cold soaking We're getting ready to do some travelling the rest of this month, but hopefully get in a real test in August when we get back. Maybe a wet trivia game...
