"How to avoid making a mess"

I recently bought some Gunge on Splatter Emporium and had my very first Gunge Session. Incredible. Big shout out to them (no photos sadly). The downside was I had to clean my small shower room for a few hours after. The gunge gets everywhere 
I want this to be a regular thing (monthly at a minimum) but the cleanup was pretty taxing!! 
After some research I found Spotless Sploshing by Candy Custard. An amazing resource. It suggested a small pool or plastic sheeting. What are peoples thoughts on either? Is plastic sheeting easy to use? Assuming I would need to connect a few rolls together, or is there a better way / product to buy.

A roll or two will last you several sessions. I usually try and make a plastic "bowl" in the bottom of the tub, and tape it to the walls going up. Then a couple smaller sheets on the higher walls for any splatter.
Takes a little while to set up, but it's worth it on the back end. When done just use a bucket to scoop out and dispose of the excess gunge. Then you can pretty much bundle up all the plastic and straight into a large garbage bag. Get the big black bags used for disposing of yard waste, because they're strong and your bundle will be heavy. You'll have a clean tub and you're done. Hope this helps.

Yes this is indeed from a Splosh photo shoot (issue 25) with the amazing Sammy-Jane and April.
With regards clean up, yeah it's always the down side to a good messy session. Plastic sheets are a must, and try to actually do the session not in a bath, as this is where you'll be cleaning yourself.
Paper overall and cover boots are a good idea, then after your all messy, put them on so your dripping everywhere.
Also a pool, either inflatable or a foldable dog pool (doesn't need inflating and bit more solid sides).

Gunge and mess will always go further than you expect them to. So basically, if doing WAM in an ordinary room, you want to set up protection like you're creating one of Dexter's kill rooms. Preparation is everything.
Be aware, plastic sheeting comes in a variety of types and strengths. The best of all is the vapour barrier / damp proof barrier type that builders sometimes use for temporary covers when they take entire windows out of buildings. That type costs though.
Then you get the "plastic dust sheets" sold by DIY stores for painting. These come in two versions, high-density and low-density. You actually want the low-density versions, the high-density ones have all the strength and protective qualities of wet toilet papert and will tear as soon as you breathe on them, wheras the low density ones are a lot tougher, can usually be walked on without ripping.
You want to put down several layers of plastic sheeting so if the top one rips the ones underneath will catch the liquids. Spread them out carefully and make sure there's nothing sharp on the floor underneath which might puncture them.
When finished with the session, ideally the sequence is:
1a. Clothes off and into plastic tubs ready to be taken for cleaning.
1b. Self and partner(s) walk to bathroom on walkways of towels laid down in advance, fully wash.
OR
1. Self and partners still in gunged outfits walk to bathroom on walkways of towels laid down in advance, fully wash, starting fully clothed, strip while washing.
2. Change into overalls or clothes you don't mind if they get a bit messy.
3. Back to the gunge room, grab the corners and edges and pull/fold inwards so you end up with a teardrop-shaped sack. Carefully lower that into a large plastic tub with handles (again, sold by DIY stores) and carry that outside, then lift the teardrop of sheeting and mess into touble-or-triple bagged plastic bin bags, tie securely, and finally lift that into a general waste bin.
Something to consider if playing in ordinary rooms are methods used. If you want to pour stuff over self or someone else, there will inevitably be a lot of spilled gloop, so full room protection very necessary. An alternative approach can be to apply the mess more intamately, using handfuls at a time and spreading it, pouring cupfuls inside clothes, etc. Protection will still be needed but there'll be less aftermath to deal with as most of it will be on you/partner(s) rather than pools of it on the floor.

Yep very simply.. we usually use between 60-80l of slime or clay.. making the pool filled about 3-5in of messy content.. it feels pretty awesome to roll around with your partner. Without the pool, the 80l of slime would spread thin all over the room..
For us, using a pool or not depends on the activity for the evening. In any case, we first put down 1 or 2 folding gym mats - your knees will thank you - then make the vapor barrier bowl on top. If it's a basic gunging/pieing, then we just make a surrounding perimeter of pool noodles underneath to create a ridge high enough to keep the spread down. If it's a multi-bucket, deep clay session, intex supplies a smaller rectangular pool which is perfect for bathrooms, and again, bowl is made in the middle. As a final add-on, we also line the immediate bottom with non-slip painting sheets you can get at fine places like Dollar Tree, which come in really handy at the end when you need the traction. 
I started using transparent plastic to cover everything but they made a lot of noise, so I decided to buy a Small Pool to "take advantage" of the mess even more and it is easier to clean. A curtain for the bottom which I can easily remove and wash and if not Being able to use the pool I'll record in a larger place where I can clean everything more easily with water and grease-cutting liquid soap.
Producing WAM content seems easy but it really takes a lot of work, cleaning more than anything, I know everyone here can confirm it.

Great idea regarding the non-slip painting sheets over the plastic sheeting. The grip would definitely come in handy

I'm excited about trying a small pool now. I'm actually considering a dog pool as I can easily place a chair in the middle of it and let the gunge collect underneath.
The bigger pool would be great to lie down in, although I'd rather have easier access to the chair. Plus climbing over a big pool seems challenging (especially when covered in gunge)

Biggest issue in wam is clean up that's in part why it helps to collaborate with at least one other person
Paint with play and surrender
The plan this summer is to construct in indoor mess area. We have a small, inflatable hot tub, and it has a padded floor. The goal is to create a small raised floor, sloping to a drain in the middle and set the inflatable tub on it. Walls will be simple 2x4 framing with construction vapor barrier (clear plastic) stapled and overhanging so water can drip downhill and not get into any seams. A shower fitting will go on the ceiling using a flexible hose pipe. The rest of the ceiling can be also sealed in plastic wrap.
Presumably, we will fill the spa with whatever mess we like, make as much of a mess as we want, then use the shower to clean ourselves, then one of us will stand the spa on end and hose it out, with all of the dissolved mess going down the floor drain. We can also hose the walls and ceiling at this time if necessary. We'll also have a standard shower ventilation fan on the ceiling to pump out all the dampness. Once the floor dries, spa is set down again and it's ready for another session.
Presumably, we will fill the spa with whatever mess we like, make as much of a mess as we want, then use the shower to clean ourselves, then one of us will stand the spa on end and hose it out, with all of the dissolved mess going down the floor drain. We can also hose the walls and ceiling at this time if necessary. We'll also have a standard shower ventilation fan on the ceiling to pump out all the dampness. I have tried lining pool but find that the lining often makes a lot of noise and ends up with a hole in it and the pool gets messy anyway. Round the outside of the pool tend to go for towels which can be washed after each scene and the photography sheet backgrounds.
I find using a plastic dustpan and a squeegy combo to scoop the mess out into buckets and then flush down the loo. Get as much into buckets as possible you have a friend to help get them to pour away whilst you're filling and then you go shower where your messy body is making the messy worse not better then come back to mop/wipe up the rest and throw everything fabric in the washing machine.
