The TV industry has a name for those annoying graphics you often see on the screen that obscure the full view....they call that a "Chyron".

Chyrons are and bad editing not my biggest pet peeves. My biggest peeves are Producers who promote tv series and movies by using totally misleading promo pictures...and when you check the actual film or tv show, no such scene exists. I have dozens of examples of this....here is 1 example...
