The times we did indoor mud, I just drove out to the riverbank and dug out 12 buckets of mud and brought them back, we then mixed in warm water to improve the consistency. That worked well several times, but the last time we did it one of the girls got an ear infection. If we do it again plan is to try fullers earth, however not tried it yet so can't make any recommendation.
We use a combination of 20% Kaolin clay, Texas Red and 20% Bentonite. Looking at the pic its more Kaolin clay. We also use a little Chlorine to keep the microbes away, get from any pool store.
Like Phil said the Allwam mud wrestling were all Kaolyn clay. Phil's and MessyGirl recepe are better in my opinion. Much thicker and creamy and has that pudding color and texture. Look at MessyGirl's update with Zoey in the outside mud pit. That and Phil's mud are the best. If I remember, MessyGirls used something like 25% kaolyn and 75% red art clay. I was able to reproduce the same results (minus Zoey rolling in it)..
MessyGirl and Allwam have the absolutely best mud texture hands down! I always say the best mud wrestling is when you can't tell who's who by the end of the bout. G.L.A.M. also has a good mud recipe and deserves an honorable mention but if I absolutely had to come up with one complaint about them it'd be I wish the mud was thicker (again I'd be nitpicking here). If I were able to do mud shows my ideal set up would look EXACTLY like my favorite all time mud wrestling clip from Jaberwalk a sizable ring, each girl portraying a character , a ref, and thick mud
