If you grew up in the 90s, you will remember the BBC's Red Nose Day / Comic Relief TV marathons usually involved gunge in some form, be it a sketch or just a public gunging.... I thought this was long gone, but apparently it keeps popping up now and again - so can anyone tell me whether there was any gunge related content on this evening's BBC telethon?
I remember, as a kid, being so excited to finally see a woman voted to be gunged, (before internet or knowing it was a fetish for others too, it was there for it not to be a bloke pied or gunged on any TV show) and it was Sara Greene, great outfit too, then the gunging happened, and there was a gantry type thing above a pool of gunge, with a slide leading to it, which she went down, and basically got about two inches of gunge on her backside, and that was about it, I remember even the two cohost trying to get her to roll around as it was so dire.. As far as recently, it's always been men, Dick and Dom last year, so don't hold out much hope
Gone are the days of Samantha Janus being gunged with curry in a Noel Edmonds based skit, or - best of all - Carol Vorderman pieing herself multiple times. Those are the only two Comic Relief mess episodes I recall. Both good, though.
I think it's become a bit frowned upon to chuck things like custard and baked beans at each other in aid of charity, especially considering that food poverty has become an increasing concern in the UK in recent years.
