I am not usually in this forum so if this has been posted already, my apologies for the repeat.
I was watching streaming TV shows on my Roku when I found this 1970's commercial with a woman in a dunk tank. It was sponsored by American Gas and it was for a Speed Queen Gas Dryer.
I found that same commercial (it's actually a series of commercials) on YouTube and thought I would share.
The dunk tank segment is at 3:22 mark. I thought it was cute, so enjoy.
I (almost) saw that commercial on TV as a teenager! Shortly after I realized there was an attractive woman sitting on a dunk tank In a dress my Father decided to talk to me 'during the commercial' about something important. He insisted I turn around and pay attention, which I did but continued to listen to the audio. It was even more heartbreaking that she got dunked a 2nd time after drying her clothes and hair, and I missed that, too!
I had hoped to see the commercial again and find out what I missed, but that didn't happen until today.
The quality of videos today is so much better, and I have been able to see dozens of women in formal dresses, heels and makeup get wet. Still, it was incredibly satisfying to finally see that commercial after all these years!
Hey that was great! Not your usual flash cutting nonsense. We got to see her dunked twice and even walk wet into the changing room, a rare treat!
Furai, I feel your pain. While I never saw this one I did have several like experiences. I saw an ad one night about coverage of underwater modelling on some late night show. I usually stayed up to watch a couple of shows. On this particular night my Mom decided she was staying up with me, something she never did. I had to skip the show, never did see it.
Also, how many times did you see a rare wet ad or show and then spend ages hoping to see it again and never doing so? There was an ad for soup where a woman in business suit crosses the crosswalk near a school with some kids and the crossing guard during a downpour. Everyone had rain gear except her. She was utterly drenched, it was great! Never saw that again. Another one was for plastic rubber things to put over your shoes in the rain. A woman steps off a curb in high heels and nylons, straight into a deep puddle. The announcer says, "does this make you feel like you feet are in fishbowls all day." The commercial cuts to a woman standing in two fishbowls of water (up to her ankles) with the same nylons and heels on. Never saw it again after that.
Oh well, at least there was the 80s slice commercial with the models (I think Iman was one of them) getting drenched and splashed on the runway for the entire commercial. That one ran a lot.
I love that setup! You never see those big dunk tanks anymore, nor great outfits like that over them. I'd love to see a modern shoot like that where the dunkee is dressed to the nines, and sitting high above the water, smugly primping her hair as if there's no chance she'll get dunked. I also love how she bothered to get dry again before sitting up there for another round. A wet dunkee has nothing to lose, but once she's dry again, that tantalizing feeling of risk comes back.
