For the sake of this poll, I'm drawing a playful distinction between Sploshers and WAMMERs:
Sploshers = Fans of anarchic, slapstick-style WAM with a sense of humour (think Splosh! magazine). WAMMERs = Everyone else into wet & messy play.
Why the split? I'm exploring a possible link between Splosher-style WAM, Brat dynamics, and ADHD particularly among women.
(Definition of Brat as per BDSM Test: Brats are, in essence, naughty submissives. They find disobedience a form of playfulness rather than letting their dominant down, and require a compatible dominant who will not only teach them a lesson, but also accept that any number of lessons might still not necessarily change this behaviour.)
In my experience, most subs that have responded to me in my travels have had ADHD, identified as Brats, and been open to Sploshing. That could be:
* Selection bias because I have ADHD myself and they're responding to it in the adverts * Due to my gamified kink style (e.g., using kink to help with ADHD goals, like a kinky accountability system) * Or just survivor bias women with ADHD are 4 times more likely to be single than a man with ADHD and thus more likely to still be seeking a partner.
Still, I've noticed:
* Playful Brats and Sploshers often overlap in vibe play wise. Doms beware! * ADHD seems disproportionately common among Brats * Brats often struggle more than other subs to find compatible partners
But I also wonder if there's a gendered element here: While messy rebellion is often seen as a "boy thing" growing up (think food fights, fart jokes, gross-out humour), girls have often been socialised to be tidy, "sugar and spice." Brat play and glitter bombs may just be the feminine-coded rebellion equivalent of custard pies creative chaos with a sparkle.
I'm hoping the results will be able to shine a light on whether there is anything beyond the gender divide.
So here's the 3-part poll: 1. Are you a Splosher or WAMMER (according to the definitions of this article)? 2. Are you Bratty or Not Bratty (Put Not Bratty if you aren't interested in other kinky play)? 3. Do you have (or suspect you have) ADHD or No ADHD?
Depending on results, I may explore this further or go hunting for the perfect experimental partner to test out whether I can create a Splosh inspired/ADHD support dynamic that incorporates their other kinks. Indeed if you have ADHD do you find it impacting on your ability to participate in the kink? For instance does tidying up afterwards stand in your way more etc. Or perhaps indeed investigate other possible factors. For instance because it is more an affront to their senses are autistics more likely to enjoy humiliating WAM?
Edit: Looks like from early results there is no evidence of increased ADHD or Bratting prevalence - or that this was a bad way to study it. I will keep the poll open long enough to confirm it for science - null result is still a result.
Im really not sure where I land based on your definition of splosher vs wammer, but I have ADHD (and OCD whatever it's worth) and I very much enjoy punishing bratty subs. I've also generally found that brats are typically open to getting messy punishments. Also pretty much every woman I've had any sort of wam-related interaction with has been neurodivergent, but that also has to do with my general personality preferences.
So I think the main hypothesis was debunked somewhat - I think trying to codify a certain vibe I got from certain types of Wammers also made this more complicated but it is worth noting that when you play with the figures that:
But some of the other observations seemed to still hold out in the numbers.
ADHD was more common amongst the WAM community as a whole than the general population:
Out of all the Wammers and Sploshers - 56.75% of those that answered the poll reported to have ADHD - a significantly higher percentage than amongst the general population.
Those with ADHD were more likely to self-report as being Bratty than those without ADHD. (11 out of 21 - 52.3%) vs (6 out of 16 - 37.5%) OR nearly 2 thirds (64%) of those responding as being Bratty are also ADHD.
Either there was selection bias for a survey about ADHD or it would seem that there might be a link between ADHD and WAM as a whole - perhaps makes us more predisposed to it. Perhaps being more rebellious or being more prone to making a mess that we have less anxiety about it?
And some degree of link that ADHD makes one more likely to be a Brat.
But there was no further support found for the rest about a hypothesis for certain types of WAM fan connected to ADHD.
Though I don't think there was anything ground breaking discovered here. Neurodiversity is somewhat common in kink circles so it is probably not a surprise that there are high levels of ADHD found here compared with the average population, nor am I sure is it a surprise that ADHD makes people more likely to be Bratty going to be a surprise in those circles.
