So if any of you have been following the news, you may have heard about a recent surge of deaths related to vaping. Certain states in the US have started bans, and federal bans are being talked about for at least flavored products other than tobacco.
I've vaped for about a little over two years, but I'm a very light vaper (a couple times a month at most). Also, I only use it for pot (oil), and I single out specific strains and now I'm learning about terps. I know flower is better, but it's also harder to deal with smells etc.
So far no links have been made to specific chemicals, flavors, materials, etc. I'd like to get the opinion on any other vapers here on what their experience has been. What do you vape, how often, and why? Nicotine, pot, or just flavor? What kind of vape are you using? Have you noticed any changes in your health or general well being?
I'd love to get some feedback here and see how serious this ACTUALLY is. To me, it feels like a bunch of people are vaping non stop, and probably using cheap, crappy stuff.
Yeah my State Michigan just passed a law banning it , seems to have come out of no where. Its going to hit the local economies hard as vape shops sprung up everywhere the past few years. From what I have read it stems from kids buying cheap vape cartridges from foreign sources some deaths have been reported but not very many. I don't vape or smoke but it would seem that there really is not a huge problem with it , maybe a hand full of deaths but that's a drop in an ocean compared to normal cigarettes. Plus you can still buy and ship the juice and cartridges right to your house from online sources so. The ban is aimed more toward younger kids buying the products but like I said you can still just buy it offline. Has to be an over inflated response from some politician some where that its demonizing vaping. Some one or some group is making noise and such.
I am -NOT- a 'Vaper', and nor do I use non-prescription narcotics (though I'm currently on PRESCRIBED Oxycodone for a broken foot), alcohol, or tobacco products, mostly since I a.) view these products as a waste of money and b.) feel I'd be at risk by dulling my senses and loosing situational-awareness.
HOWEVER, I am a Constitutionalist, and, before the Federal-Leviathan/Deep-State create any law, including a law governing 'vaping', they should be FORCED to show where the Constitution (not the 'precedent'/unmoored-opinions of unelected Judges) authorizes such action.
The Constitution DOES NOT empower the Federal Leviathan to;
-Determine what is or is not 'marriage' -Determine what kind of health-insurance citizens may choose to purchase, if any at all -Seize control of state eductation-systems -Set a FEDERAL drinking age -etc., etc., etc...
What does the constitution have to do with anything? It's not like any part of the Federal Government gives a rat's ass about it.
Anyways, I found it interesting that so far they aren't doing anything about tobacco flavored ones or you know, the big elephant in the room ACTUAL cigarettes.
The only legit thing my brain can come up with is that perhaps many of the ingredients that have been known as safe to ingest may react differently if inhaled? But vaping has been around for around a decade now.
I'd rather this not be completely derailed into a broader political topic. We know the government is shit. There are enough other places outside of here to draw that divide.
There's no such issues here, from what I can gather we have much stronger regulations on what can go in the vape juice. Even so, I can see the vultures circling and I'm not sure how long until we get bans, blocks or taxes.
I think the situation in the States is from cheap substitutes being used instead of Propylene Glycol (PG) and/or Vegetable Glycerin (VG). This has resulted in some cases of illness and deaths.
I was a 40 a day smoker who has vaped instead for 6 years.
I vape except when I'm drinking - when the smokes come back out... But I have to agree, it does seem to be a substances in the juice that's the issue. THC is what some news outlets are claiming is the issue

Which is COMPLETE bullshit, because flower is one of the first things that people started vaping. It's all this nasty ass kool-aid vape coming from god only knows where that this started happening. Also, those still have nicotine in them. Nicotine is addictive, pot isn't.

to be honest, anyone who vapes (myself included) don't know what we are doing with our bodies with it... when you put anything through an atomizer at quite high temperatures, something is going to change the juices. i'm always concerned about the burnt coils etc, but does THC do stuff at that temperature? is it a dodgy company using cheap/fake VG or PG? that is the problem. Its worrying, but, is it safer than smoking - the evidence is that it clearly is!
Especially after reading that last article, sounds like it's far safer to buy from the dispensaries rather than the completely unregulated stuff that might've been mixed up in somebody's bathtub for all we know. Maybe that's being facetious, but consider the unregulated "bath salts" that were marketed as, well, bath salts and "plant food" when folks were using them and losing their minds completely. There's a LOT of unregulated black-market stuff of all varieties being secretly imported or even made within our (USA) borders. Greed leads to cutting corners and cutting in untested ingredients.
And if it's black market without a clear source back to the manufacturer and sold in packets without a UPC or company contact information, it would be tough to do anything in time if something went horribly wrong. The anarchist in me wants to believe in small startups creating herbals "in small, artisanal hand-crafted batches with simple ingredients" but not when customers are being injured and dying.
I've only tried regular CBD from a health store (full spectrum, i.e. THC-containing isn't legal yet in my state) and frankly feel like I wasted my $20 on that vape pen. It was pleasant but I can't shake the feeling I'd have been better off getting calming effects from a $2 box of chamomile tea.

We have legalized for medicinal in Pennsylvania for about a year now. A couple dispensaries have cropped up near me.
the vaping deaths as far as I can tell are all related to THC vaping and something like oil that shady suppliers have been putting in there, not the regular stuff. Vaping oil instead of PG/VG is causing terrible lung probs.
I have been vaping nicotine VG/PG e liquids for 3.5 years now. Its a whole lot better than smoking for sure. The unbiased research shows its about 5 % the harm of smoking. In Canada here our main stream news twisted the story good for political reasons. The Government is missing tax dollars, BIG tobacco and the medical industry don't want to see a profit loss either. Vaping isn't perfect, but it is a huge harm reduction strategy.
What I know about these health problems and deaths is that some THC vape cartridges were cut with synthetic vitamin E that will obviously decompose/oxidise and create toxins. The common base ingredients of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol remain stable when vaporized.
I buy my vape juice from reputable companies that make safe products, just like I choose grass fed beef. Better for my health vs. saving a few dollars to die early, weak and miserable.
Personally I prefer cooking Sativa flowers into coconut oil in a pressure cooker and eat it.
