We decided to beat the heatwave here by trying out our dunk tank filling plans! For a bit of backstory, in 2018 I stumbled on a Craigslist ad for a dunk tank and bought it on a whim. I had not considered the logistics of filling said dunk tank. We live in a very rural area with no public water system. Our house is on well water. The dunk tank holds 500 gallons of water. We don't want to risk burning up the pump or running the well dry pumping up that much water so I have only ever gotten to use the dunk tank at friend's houses. Andi had so much fun with it last year that I became determined to find a way to fill it at the house. Thanks to some brainstorming with Doctor Splash, gpgt90 and Hope, a few viable plans were conceived. The first attempt was a bust, but the second one worked! Another obstacle that came up was how to do our usual style shoot with only 2 people. Gpgt90 was also helpful in that area with coming up with a viable photography system. We managed to get in 10 sessions while it was filled last week; a long formal, a business skirt suit, a ballerina, a cheerleader, a short formal, a bride, a punk rocker, an Alice costume, a church lady, and a clown. I still have sessions from last year that I am working on editing, so it will probably be a while before I get around to all these. In the meantime, here are some cellphone pics and a video highlighting the first dunks of each outfit. And once again, thanks to Doctor Splash, gpgt90 and Hope for helping to make this happen Enjoy!
I'm going to have to point out just how much work JD and Andi put into this session. Not only do they spend a ton of time sourcing the fantastic costumes but also lot of time was spent just planning out how to fill the dunk tank, which was not an easy maneuver.
Last year's DT session turned out great so I'm very much looking forward to this session.
Thanks very much for putting this all together and sharing it with us.
Here are some high res pics from the DSLR camera set up that gpgt90 helped with. These were the first 2 dunkings of the day. The camera was mounted on a stationary high tripod and tripped by a remote shutter release during the dunkings in a high speed continuous shutter release mode. It felt odd to me shooting blindly, but it worked well My old Nikon does struggle to capture the high speed action so some pictures did come out blurry.
Thank you both for all the pics and video, watching it reminded me of all the times I've climbed up on the seat dry and then The Drop! And then to climb back up soaking wet to dunked again repeatedly. And the times I thought ahead and brought extra clothes with me so I could get wet all over again. (and invariably I'd have to go home in wet clothes cause I couldn't resist going again, again, & again!) PS I'd absolutely Jump at the chance to sit in your dunk tank and have Lots of extra clothes with me...
