Hi all.

I have often wondered what part of my mental make up resulted in me having a WAM Fetish. I wondered if my parents might have had it before me but never had any evidence to suggest they did apart from the occasional hurried switching off of the TV when something messy came on.

But having now become a father myself I do wonder if my sexual preference for WAM, which is so strong in me, will be passed on to my daughter. Needless to say, I'm not sure how I would react if I ever found out that she had inherited it (I imagine I'll never know). Would I be happy for her or panic?

Again, I'll probably never have to be concerned as I don't think many people ever get too involved in their parent's or children's sex lives (unless they're doing something illegal!), but I just wondered if anyone else had ever considered it?

I don't know for certain but I very much doubt its hereditary. I'm pretty certain all the gunge filled gameshows when I was growing up are to blame! I would be very surprised if I found out my parents have the same kink as me. I'm pretty certain if they found out about mine they would be horrified.

I'm pretty sure fetishes are based on nurture, not nature. So don't act strangely with respect to wam when you're around her and nothing but random chance will guide her.

Having a psych background, I've often wondered about the psychology of fetishes. This is an area that really has very little research behind it. In fact, if you look in the DSM-IV fetishes are still considered a disorder. However, given the limited about of research it means that no one really has some up with a good explanation about how they develop. As far as I've been able to tell from basic internet searching, there really isn't a common factor between us all that lead us to our fetish.

Here's my guess. Fetishes in general probably have some genetic factors. But the specific fetish (ie WAM) is totally based on our experiences growing up. My theory is that we have genetic predispositions to develop fetishes, and if those predispositions are activated during our childhood we develop the specific fetish.

That's stupid that the DSM-IV lists fetishes as a 'disorder.' Someone needs to debunk that archaic puritanical categorization.

I'm going to up the 'Eww' factor here, but I'm inclined to agree with the hereditary aspect. (I think I might have mentioned this in a thread about a year or 2 ago as well, but...whatev).

There's at least one other family business here I've no intention of outing, but speaking personally, just because our parents may not have had game shows or whatever to light up their interest, getting one's wam on is a surprisingly easy thing to achieve in everyday life. Besides, who did Laurel & Hardy or the good folks at Keystone studios watch, or the people in those mudlarking pics from the 1920s? There's also a lot of stock to be taken in the old "takes one to know one" saying, and if you keep your eyes open for the right reactions to things, you can become pretty good at ferreting out the potential wammers in your life....but sometimes that has a downside.

Now that things like Google, sloppy browser clearing, and the internet are available to humanity, however, I think you can expect to see a lot more of the hereditary preferences coming out in life.

I would be freaked out if my folks or my kids have a WAM fetish. That would be just so... wrong...

You made the most sense. BUT, if we are genetically predisposed to wam, why is it that UMD members are predominantly male. We know that girls can get into sploshing from models who have done it again and again, but those who get a sexual kick from it are few and far between. Be interesting to hear some thoughts from the ladies.

As for genetics playing a role: It seems there are a two main categories of folks here when it comes to WAM origins, after how many threads over the past 11+ years asking
"When did you get into wam?"
- There are those who remember becoming a wammer sometime around puberty, being influenced by television shows are a specific event they witnessed
- And there are those who have no memory of a life without wam, who so far as they know, were born with this fetish.

So in order to at least get closer to understanding the genetic aspect we have to dismiss the first group from this particular discussion (that is to say, not dismiss their ideas and thoughts but dismiss their case from the case study itself.)

I fall into the latter category, where I simply don't remember a time when I didn't love to get messy. I could never understand why I had a physiological reaction to seeing people get messy (in that I'd get hard, even pre-puberty when I wasn't physically capable of doing anything 'sexual'). My first orgasm was linked with one of my first organised WAM sessions at the age of 13, but that was following years of playing in mud or with food just off the cuff. And it wasn't until 5 years later that I found out I wasn't a freak who had a "disorder". So yeah, I was definitely born a wammer.

But to revisit wammster19's point which I think could be very valid, perhaps some of us are born with a genetic predisposition to inherit any fetish, and it is the things we are exposed to at a very young age that decide how that fetish mode will manifest itself. Perhaps it was seeing messy gameshows as a young kid that triggered it to move in that direction. Maybe if I'd been exposed to something else I would have had a different fetish. That said, I do think I was playing in the mud prior to that. My parents sometimes poke fun at me by reminding me that I used to strip naked and play in the mud at the age of 2 or 3... ...many kids do things like that, but how many grow up to say they still do it?

I guess this thread is really as much about what makes us tick as our families. I'm just wondering what part of my brain went snap and when, and hoping my daughter doesn't go through 5 years of feeling like a freak because she thinks she's the only person in the world with an unusual kink.

Pre-internet and pre-"Splosh" (mag), we had to believe that we were the only ones who could sexually like something as "weird" as this! You sure couldn't talk to anyone else about it, and besides, who gets off on seeing pretty girls get pied? A few years before "Splosh", I would see the occasional pic or article in men's mags showing mess. And in the early 80's you would see pics of the mud/pudding/mashed potato/etc. wrestling that was so popular back then.

But I went through the first 25-30 years of my life feeling like a freak, until I started seeing things from "Splosh", and bits in some other mags, and hearing that on the internet there were all kinds of WAM-related things. When I finally got the internet in 1999, I came to realize how widespread WAM was. As small a community as we are, it's a whole lot bigger than just me, by myself, and that was somewhat comforting! It's a whole different ballgame for those growing up now, who can just go on the net and see that they're not alone.

I remember growing up (pre-internet), and having a, what I felt, was an unusual interest in watching pretty ladies get messy on TV and in film.

While folks around me would be laughing at a lady taking a pie, I was getting turned on about it.

The idea of seeing a girl get messy, getting messy myself, or getting messy with a girl was a powerful allure for me. While I was never ashamed of it, I did think it was unusual to feel this way. So I kept it to myself, and sometimes wondered if I was some freak but not caring.

Then came that great day when I was cruising the internet I had just got. "The Great Race" had been on TV the day before and I was thinking about it, I decided on a lark to type in a search for girls being pied. That is when I found Phoebe Rodriguez's wonderful site. I couldn't believe my eyes. A whole site dedicated to watching girls getting messy. I felt like I had won the lottery.

There was a WAM ring at the bottom of the page. I think it was Robby's "Wamma Lamma" site I saw next. The first place I bought material from. The ring eventually led me to the UMD and the forum. It was great. I realized that many, MANY folks, good folks, shared my fetish, and it was great.
