If I were a producer, I'd be pretty upset by the lack of advance notice or update. This is tantamount to the delayed payment problem from a while ago. Only this time the prods don't even have the chance to make the money that was being put on hold. They have to wait an indefinite amount of time to even start selling.
There is always a downside to playing it safe, but it's not all that bad. The wait has always been 1 to 3 days. I only remember one time that it took much longer than 3 days. I suppose MM loses some money if the video debuts elsewhere, days in advance of it's UMD release, but he's the one making the call.
BTW: I am one of those producers who is making sales elsewhere while waiting for approval on UMD. It's just the way MessMaster wants to steer his ship, so, as long as it is reasonably consistent/predictable, it is what it is.
