This is a public message being posted on UMD in the hope that one of the site admins might be bothered to spend a few minutes reading it since i never get a reply to emails.

Now don't get me wrong, i've had plenty of good communication with UMD but when it comes to technical problems you don't seem to bother helping. (Just my opinion)

I've had problems uploading to FTP for a long time, have contacted MessMaster, consulted other people on UMD (and other forums), and have never been able to get the problem fixed.
But then again, perhaps someone should've offered to re-create the FTP home folder to see if this resolves the problem - but no such offer was made.

Now i'm trying to upload my latest videos and the files simply dissapear after uploading. One file is 601Mb the other is 950Mb - both upload fine and then nothing happens when the page refreshes. I don't get the usual yellow bar at the top of the page like i did for the smaller downloads (trailers, photos, etc).

I have tried to upload from 2 different computers on 4 different internet connections:
1) Residential ADSL (8Mbps)
2) Business ADSL (18Mbps)
3) 4x bonded ADSL lines (24Mbps)
4) Business Fibre 1:1 (100Mbps)

On all of these connections i have tried different equipment, different firewall (i bypassed the firewall completely at one time just to eliminate it as a potential problem), but nothing will let these files upload properly.

PLEASE can someone with a shred of technical knowledge have a look at my FTP account on the UMD server and sort it out because i can't get my content online, and to be honest UMD isn't the only place i could put it - but it is where i 'choose' to put it because i like the community.

Sadly, I don't have the level of access (or knowledge) to assist you, Katie. That area is Messmasters territory. It's most unfortunate that he's been unable or unavailable to help you get it sorted. All I can suggest is keep harassing him. Eventually, he'll come through for you.

When you say disappear, do you mean from your ftp?

If so, that's what is supposed to happen.

Once uploaded, wait a few minutes and then check your link in "My Store":

Add New Scene (Bin)




That's probably where you are looking, but let's double check. It's not actually obvious or intuitive.



Right now, I see nothing on my ftp but a whole bunch of movies in my "bin".


MessMaster has been AWOL for quite a while, and it is frustrating when he is the only one that can make an actual change or give any technical help. Nothing is more frustrating than unanswered emails.

On that note - have you emailed him at his dark colors address?

Yes i've tried emailing MessMaster using every method i could think of, and they still go unanswered.
I'm considering offering my services to UMD since i've got a few Microsoft certifications under my belt (or panties ) and know my way around servers - at least technical problems would get fixed

The problem with my files being uploaded is that the web page uploads the file, the page refreshes and i see the yellow bar at the top of the page confirming it was uploaded and to check in a few minutes - but the yellow bar doesn't appear after the page refreshes and my files don't appear in the bin.

I uploaded 2 ZIP files of photos, 2 movie trailers - those uploaded fine - but when it came to the full length movies nothing happened after the page refresh.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the permissions on my home folders (on the server) and if i had to guess i would say the ACL was screwed up and needs rebuilding - but it's only MessMaster that would have root access to the server to make the ACL change.

Oh well, my fans will have to wait a little longer to see me popping balloons in my panties

As Middy said unfortunately the site mods (Us) do not have any access to the servers or any of the technical aspect or anything to do with the stores at all. I personally would be glad to help out where I can as unlike MIddy I am a IT pro working in the bussiness and have an MCSE for one (been in this game for ages, lol)
But as we can't get in to anything I'm afraid it will have to be Messmaster

Thanks for the info from you and Midnight - it does explain why some things get sorted quickly whereas others take longer - especially if there is just one person with 'top dog' access.
I totally understand how frustrating it is when you know what the problem is but need someone else to do the fix - at least in this case the person on the other end isn't a total f**kwit on some multi-purpose helpdesk in India who can hardly speak a woird of engleesh.

Well, i've emailed MessMaster (again) and will see if i get a response now that a bit of fuss has been kicked up on here.

ITS SO ANNOYING ISN'T IT!

I have lots of issues every single time I try to upload stuff to the UMD server.
I currently have 3 different server addresses in Filezilla for UMD and I end up using all 3 and still have grief.
My last video took nearly 50 hours of constant re-uploading until it got sorted out.

In MM's defence, he did sort it out for me. I messaged him a few times and last time around, I think he reset the server (I don't understand these things) and it fixed the problem.
He is a busy man I expect.

I also had problems uploading pictures, as there was a gremlin in the auto-watermark facility and it deleted any file with a capital letter in it.
To MM's defence again.... he did sort it out for me.

All I can suggest is like the others.... constant private messages to MM

Trouble I have is that Steve gets pissed off with all the hassle and doesn't want to make any more videos! No!

I'll just have to hound him with emails because i won't have nothing to do with the AO-HELL service, including AIM - i don't want their software on my PC.

You need to feed the servers with cheese every so often Tara and sometimes the needle goes all the way to the end of the hard disk and needs putting back to the start again

 

And there was me thinking the problem might be the flux-capacitor - I've heard that they often break in servers, but at least it's a simple fix if you have the right pineapple

 

Check out Pidgin or mirandaim.org to avoid their software but use the services.

Why anyone would want an account with Arseholes On Line does beg belief though.

There isn't a flux capacitor on a server though silly, but sometimes there can be issues with transperambulation of pseudo cosmic antimatter.

Cheese is indeed the fix for that, sometimes even a liberal injection of pickle.

God i miss pickle.

 

Hi Noise, i've installed Miranda IM and created an account with Arseholes OnLine (this so made me laugh! ), but i'm not sure if i've found messmaster or not because it will let me add any old rubbish to my buddy list - either way, all those i found are offline.

I'm still getting lots of messages from people asking when this vid will be available so i'm kinda desperate to get this online or i'll upload it to an alternative site and move my content away from UMD - i really don't want to but as i said, i'm getting desperate.

I just put together an alternative direct on my site for that reason, I need to be able to control my release schedule pretty tightly. Second it got a little less expensive.

The beauty of UMD though is it generates it's own traffic and Derek has done a really good job in making things customizable. I'm doing well out of the UMD stores and it's doing well out of me.

It might be worth doing a DL store with Soundguys system, I still use it because it super solid and works like clockwork. It's not pretty, not very customizable and it relies on your own traffic, but it is absolutely rock solid and Patrick is well on top of customer service. In the years I have had it I have yet to wait more than a couple of hours for a reply, and always got a good answer.

Each has its plus and minus's, you just have to accept it and use what benefits you the most in the way you need it where you need it... I wouldn't move content away from UMD because it costs nothing to leave there and will turn over $$$'s, but it's not working for you I would use a second solution as well to cover all the bases.

I haven't seen MessMaster on AIM for ages...

Well i've managed to get the file onto the FTP server but it's not appearing in my bin.

Just wanted to put an end to this particular thread:

I have been emailing MessMaster daily to get this problem sorted - and i fully understand that he has his own life outside of UMD - but as he is the only one with top-level access he should dedicate some time to fixing the problem because i seriously doubt that my files have been sat in a queue for 48hrs+ and haven't moved a smegging inch.
I HAVE had a couple of replies from MessMaster explaining how the upload queue is handled by the server, but no real explanation about what is happening with "my" videos and when i can expect them to be ready.

So... I have taken advice from "Noise" and set up my own store to sell my downloads and it has already taken a few sales.
And as Yamtree says in his signature: "Do you need UMD more than UMD needs you?" - the answer to this is No. I do not 'need' UMD and i'm sure that UMD can do without me causing aggravation by trying to get a problem fixed. The only reason i am here in the first place is because i 'want' to be here.

I will be happy to leave my content on UMD and will gladly upload new pics to the community, but free services like this is a two-way-street and at the moment traffic is only flowing one way for me. (backwards!)
UMD relies on people like me to upload new content and generate income for the site, but if people like me can't get our content online, what are we do to except go elsewhere?

So..... I'm very sorry to say that i won't be on UMD much more as an active visitor unless my vids get sorted - what is the point? (not being funny or sarcastic, but seriously, what is the point in me hanging around here if i've got nothing good to offer?)

Hi, Katie. I completely understand. When MM switched payment processors, AlertPay was still working fine for me, but he left no option to stay with AlertPay, and my business has been banned from PayPal, so I had to shut down my store, altogether.

I know Derek is a busy guy, and I know my business isn't that important to him, so I don't blame anyone for the outcome. However, I don't hang around here, much, since I have a limited amount of time. Between shooting, editing, uploading, and promoting videos, there isn't much time left for on-line play. As it is now, my visits here are just to see what's going on in the WAM world, and they are only when I get a chance to drop in, or someone sends me a PM that I need to check.

Keep up the great work, Katie, and I second the comment about you being twice as hot, now that we know you're also computer savvy.
