We do actually have quite a lot of developers on UMD but unfortunately like anything it would take time and time equals money so not likely. However having said that Android has been designed to be easy to develop for with quite a few online wizards out there so why not give it a go yourself, you never know
Cheers, Jonn

I thought about that a lot. But at the end of the day, I think investing time learning and designing an app (or paying to have built) would be more than it's worth. I'd have to put that time and money into it, and then the app stores can just deny it anyway, because it's adult or whatever.
I think I'm sticking to the web. Make the site just work well on portable devices. No approval process and no separate programming languages and OS platforms to deal with. Just make a single site work on everything, and you can get your stats and email alerts and everything right on your cell. Maybe I'm naive?

As an Apple developer, I agree with your plan. I actually thought about how I might write such an app, but it would be a fairly complex task just to emulate what can be done through a web browser and e-mail. That would just be the baseline. I really couldn't even think of any functions that I could add. It would just be repackaging the existing function for a small, touch screen interface. I really don't see the value in it; especially considering the investment.
I agree MM I think in the instance of UMD it is the best way to deliver the content to the most devices and browser options out there. However both Android and Ipads have issues with Java and whilst they can cope with java scripting they can't cope with java apps like chat which is why now Oracle have ownership of Java they are not happy about it on these devices as they say only working with half the capabilities is as good as not at all.

Thank you for your replies. I completely agree - there would be little value in optimising the umd for smartfones and tablets. Messmaster - your site works unbelievably well on my Android with Firefox - but looks so much better on my projector!
I was thinking of a web page scraper linked to a UMD branded RSS feed to deliver messages, sales stats, comments etc. Although I get push email telling me I have messages and I can read them on the UMD site through my phone, downloading the site over 3G or HSDPA is slow and can get expensive. Maybe we can just configure an existing app so that there is no approval process. Yamtree - I'm not a coder, but I will have a look at the Android wizards you were talking about. But messmaster, you're right. Time is always an issue - the spare time around the work and commuting that I do have should be spent sploshing not coding!
That being said, if I have the time I'll have a play with this. You might be able to add it as a premium membership only function which would give it some value I guess.
