Hey UMD fam. As you know, I'm always working on the site but have a bad habit of not communicating what's new. Here are a few little features that I don't think a lot of people know about:
- You can set your preference to only see females or only see guys. Click the Preferences link at the very top of the site to set your pref. Not all pages are filtered, but it should remove a large chunk of what you probably don't want to see, on the wall, downloads, and various search results.
- Set the gender of content you normally post. It helps UMD know what to filter for the people using the gender filter above. If you'll ever post pictures or vids, please edit your profile and set this option.
- Night mode, for those who like dark backgrounds. It changes it to the UMD's original color scheme from back in the day. Linked at the top right.
- Video chat--you can do a one-on-one, or start a broadcast in the hangout and invite others to join. It's not perfect yet, but it's a start. And it's free.
- Mini hangout! Want to be on the group chat without tying up your whole browser window? You can have the hangout appear in a small separate window while you browse the rest of UMD. Click "Hangout" at the bottom left of the chat bar.
- Filter forum users. Hover your mouse over any username in the "Started By" forum column and a little X will appear. Click it, and you'll never see that user's threads again.
- Naked chat. Click the button in the hangout and see only the chatroom fill your browser without any UMD graphics. That + night mode = some good late-night chattin.
- UMD Premium now gives better-quality videos on the Videos page (that you can download), and extends page results on all galleries, pic archive, vid archive, wall, and everywhere else. Had to throw that in there.
And I'm always open for suggestions for future features.
That's great stuff! Just switched to the night v̶i̶s̶i̶o̶n... version. With how much I'm in front of this box, it's much easier on the eyes.
A suggestion, I really like a feature I've seen on a few other forums, where if you hover over a thread title, it will show you the first sentence or so of the original post. Helps figuring out what the thread is about if the title is a little ambiguous.

Keep up the great work!
I think that's a good idea. I'll add it to my To Do.....
I love the premium feature to download photo albums as zips.:notworthy: I'd love to see that added to forum threads if at all possible. Especially in some of the massive photo posts, it would be nice to have that one link instead of having to grab each photo one by one.

Haha when you post, about half the time there is an HTML bold or anchor tag that you didn't close. That causes the rest of the page to be messed up or not show. I just closed one on this post of yours
Just a question on the side, what does it mean when a profile says UMD superstar and such next to the name?
A random name that I made up, to depict the most-loved people on UMD! I change the threshold from time to time, but it's usually the first 30 or so people here: http://umd.net/top_contributors
Just want to say thanks for the gender filter features! I know I bitched about the lack of those a lot. If I could be so bold as to make a tiny additional suggestion, would it be hard to apply the folters to the recent/top photos on the "People" page? Thanks again for all your hard work.
Edit: actually it looks like this may already be the case and the pics im seeing just haven't had the gender set on them. If so ignore this!

Yeah those sections are filtered. I'll check through and see if I need to update anyone's profile....
