Hey fellow wammers. I've just added a "Soapbox" checkbox that you'll see when starting a new thread. Using this option just marks the thread as a conversation starter and is meant to make it easier to identify threads where we actually talk about interesting wam stuff, among the otherwise commercial plugs and alerts and finds.

So if your new thread is meant to invoke thought and conversation, then click the checkbox!

To be clear: It's not for commercial plugs, movie/tv alerts, get-together announcements, or even wam finds (unless the point of the find is to incite conversation).

My ears are open to opinions.

That's a wonderful idea.

Some of us beeline right to stuff like that. I am not a big consumer...I make my own experiences and my own material, really...'twould be nice to know where the conversations are!

Soap is used for cleaning. WAM is for making things messy.

Well if it's a sticky soapbox topic that happens to also be an announcement that you haven't read...and it's a popular topic with a poll in it, then that'll be 6 icons, thankyouverymuch. If we lock it and put the lock icon, then there probably won't be any room for words!

I love the idea, but I can already see some on the UMD not understanding the very basic fucking concept of the 'soapbox' icon and are asking about finding TV/movie WAM scenes and "What should I use to gunge myself?"

I think this is a great idea. Hopefully this power will be used for good and not evil.

That actually could be a legitimate use. If they really had a question like that to pose to the community, then it could spawn into a useful, helpful discussion. They're not selling anything, and it encourages us to actually talk to each other. That's exactly the purpose of the soapbox. Maybe I should have just named it something else
