Hi All,

A great new clip from Tiswas has appeared on Youtube and, buried right in the middle, is a great pie for host Sally James that I haven't seen before.

The set-up is pretty good - she's interviewing Dr Hook when her co-host comes on and asks them about their single "Sexy Eyes" whilst holding a couple of great looking pies with "sexy pies" written on them in frosting and, well, lets Sally have them both.

As there are obviously some complete idiots who'll go out of their way to weird out wam clips posted on Youtube, I'll not reveal the URL. However here is a rapidshare link to an edit of the action.

Worth a look - I've never seen this before and it is a cracking clip.

I think the concern with weirding out people is more for females posting clips of themselves, if this person is posting a tv clip, it shouldn't be that big a deal to post the link.

That was a GREAT pie hit (actually, 2 pies) on the one and only Sally James!

She was/is so cute and sexy! And for her to get wet and messy every week must have been amazing! Between Sally and Holly Willoughby you folks across the pond had quite an age range covered for sexy ladies getting messed!

Thank God (or Al Gore ) for the internet; without it, we North Americans would never have known about these two outstanding ladies! What a treat to see clips of them!

I am a Sally James fan too...because I actually sat there every week from 1978 until 1980 with my clunky old Philips VTR video recorder and I recorded at least 100 of the 300 shows that were made, saving whatever wam scenes happened....and I can tell you that Sally James never got wet and messy every week (as Holly did on MOM)....the actual number of TISWAS shows that have wet and messy scenes were actually a small number...i.e. less than 30 of the 300 shows had wet and messy scene....and I know...cos often I would record the show for 3-4 weeks when nothing much wet and messy happened.....so Sally only got messy a few times...but certainly not every week.

I can give you some idea of how few the wam scenes were...I saved all the wam scenes for a 2 year period on that show and when I compiled it all together it only amounted to about 45 mins of footage from taping more than 70 x 3hr shows during that time....so it was mostly only a few minutes here and there from periodic shows...not wam scenes happening every week.

So....just to set history straight....Holly was far more prolific than Sally James...cos Holly would get wet or messy every week. Sally did about 20 or so wam scenes during the 5 years she was on Tiswas....so Sally only averaged about one nice wam scene every 4-5 weeks.

I wish I could have saved all my original VTR recordings froml the 150 x 3hr Tiswas shows I taped when it aired in the UK....but unfortunately back in those days video tape was very expensive...i.e. my VTR used a 1inch video tape format that cost 75 Pounds ($110) per blank tape...and so I could not afford to buy hundreds of fresh tapes to record stuff each week....I could only afford to buy a few blank tapes, so I had to record the full shows and then cull the best bits only to a compilation tape, and then erase and re-use that tape again etc.

BTW....if anybody can find the long lost see thru wet t shirt scene of Sally James....let me know...cos she appeared on the Chris Biggins UK gameshow called "On Safari" in 1982 and during the swimming pool game she fell in the pool and her t shirt went see thru and she was not wearing a bra and so thats the best wetlook moment of Sally James that nobody has found yet.

Thanks for setting the record straight on the number of WAM scenes Sally was in.

Knowing very little about the show, except for what's posted on here and some websites, it always sounded like there was messy mayhem every week. Comments about messy parents, the people in the "jail", and then comments about the hosts getting messy, and Sally being one of the hosts, I just extrapolated out:

Mess every week + Sally there as host + Mayhem = Sally messy every week.

Great fantasy, but it's good to know how it really was.

Man, that is dedication Top Wam. Makes younger wammers appreciate how it was before the internet and youtube. I am an American born in 1981, so I never knew Tiswas had so many episodes, and that Sally James getting messy was uncommon. That being said, I watched a ton of nickelodeon my first 12 years. I can remember being frustrated that Robin, the female co-host of two messy game shows, did not get pied or slimed ONCE in the five years she was on. Must have been in her freaking contract or something. (although every time this comes up on the forum someone remembers reading that she got pied at some point or some place, but no one has any pics or vids.)

TopWam, do you remember seeing either Debbie Harry or Kate Bush guesting on Tiswas? I know that both did appear at least once on the show. I've heard accounts from various British folk who saw the show when it was originally on saying they remember both women getting pied. And then others insist that one or the other or both never were pied. I was just wondering if you had specific memories of these two...

More like stupidity and fanatacism I think....cos in the early 1970's when I first bought a VTR machine, it cost almost 2000 quid, which is more than most people paid to buy a used car, so while all my friends were out drinking and partying....I was flat broke cos I spent all my money on being a "Telly Adict".

I am 99% sure that neither of them ever appeared live on the show and got slimed or pie'd. Don't forget....the myth about TISWAS was that it was a 3hr show filled with wet and messy scenes.....not true at all. 80% of the time all they were doing was chatting and showing cartoons and pre-recorded music videos etc.....and the actual time spent on wam scenes was never more than 5 minutes out of each 3hr show. I am pretty sure they showed Blondie and Kate Bush music videos on the show...but they did not appear "live" and get slimed or pie'd.

But hey...I did not record all the shows...only the ones I saw from 1977 to 1979. After 1980 I left the UK to work in Hong Kong, so I did not see the final shows that aired in 1981 and 1982....and so some things happened on those shows that I never knew about.....for example...did you know that on the very last show ever recorded in 1982....they had American actress Tippi Hedren live on the show (you may remember her from Hitchcock's "The Birds") ....along with her 18 year old daughter....actress Melanie Griffith.....and I only just recently got the clip where Tippi gets pied by the Phantom Flan Flinger, and then in the mayhem that ensues you can see Melanie getting gunged too.....so that was a new one for me.
