That might not be 17 seperate people, it could be 2 or 3 who have refreshed the forum a few times, it counts as a hit each time.

Anyway, i dont think many people on this site spam, and tbh, so long as there are a few good pictures in the post i really dont care if they do. To the people that want more discusion on the forums, i'm sure if there were more interesting topics created they would stay on page 1 threw sure activity in the thread.
Lets face it only a dull, or completely explored topic is going to have posts in 100 seperate topics occur before it gets another reply.

That said, as a long-time member I DEMAND a forum for suggesting other forums. People like muddoug who post about needing a separate forum for things like men-discussing-women-being-pied-by-men-and-women have a traumatic cooling effect on my erection and I for one will not stand for it. So either make a new forum for people to post about new forums in or I'll create my own new forum!

Kind of strange to me how I'm on the top of the filtered list right off the bat! I've always taken a moderate approach to posting as I've seen the bumping going on myself and didn't want to fall into that spamming category. But, I do understand if it's just due to the non XXX thing I have going on.

 

Took hours for me to get filtered... I have the non xxx thing going on as well, and post more than most. I'm an arrogant sod to boot. Go figure.

 

I wouldn't worry about it. One user could block you for whatever reason, and then browse the forums heavily, making your count go up, all by himself. I would wait a few days and watch how the list pans out. He could block you just because he doesn't like pies or whatever.

The numbers you see are not the number of users blocking people. They are the number of times that pages were loaded with that person blocked. A single person, if they blocked you, could view the forum 20 times, and it will show you as having been blocked 20 times. Or 20 different people could have blocked you and viewed one page apiece.

Nobody can block anyone unless they are registered and signed in to UMD.

UMD gets 13,000 unique visitors per day. 200,000 page views. The number of blocked people is probably statistically insignificant.

As for blocking LisaMoomin, almost all of us love her stuff and welcome her "spamming" (which really is not spamming at all). The filter is just there for the wamsnobs who feel the need to tweak things how they like 'em

I thought I did say or agree that they are different markets, but that both "amateur" and "professional" producers, using your own definitions, can and are seeking a financial return for their work and efforts. There are several definitions of "professional" which involve a degree of competence or occupation, but there is one that involves receiving payment for work, goods or services performed. There are many "amateur" producers and almost all "professional" producers who are selling their scenes and stills: they release some teaser stills or a trailer and say to their markets "this is what we have on offer this week/month, now pay us money if you want to see more". Such producers require payment before giving away their full scenes/updates; they don't give their scenes away first and maybe ask for donations afterwards, which to me would be the "amateur" model.



If I read this correctly - that you are basically saying that a website such as UMD requires money to run it - then yes I agree with that. Server and storage space, bandwidth, administrative, marketing and possibly legal resources all require money.



I will admit that forum controls are something I will have to look into further, and the new filter feature to see how that may alter a viewing experience.



I did take the opportunity of taking a snapshot of the first page of the Messy Forum at about 7:05 GMT this morning. I'm not sure where to post that or how to display more detailed analytics once I have been over them in more detail.

After a preliminary look though, of the 100 posts on the first page, 65 were what I would define as directly promotional: i.e., a producer ("amateur" or "professional") posting copies or links to stills or trailers for content they are selling (not offering freely and then asking for donations). And I do not consider teaser stills or trailers as offering free content: the end result is to get consumers to buy the full scene/update or subscribe to a site. If you believe differently, then I invite you to consider what may happen to a producer's sales if they did not provide such "free" tumbnails, stills or trailers as part of their promotional posts.

A further 6 posts of other categories I considered had possible promotional content - such as a producer asking for questions as to who to shoot with or what to include in a scene, which inevitably includes a follow-up reply ot new topic when said scene has been shot.

I will agree that I was surprised at how many posters were promoting their scenes there. 26 different members promoting their own content since Sunday 17th July 2011 in a total of 43 posts (since that date). So clealy there are a range of producers for various markets posting. (Something that is very welcome at least: I know of one major fetish forum dominated by one "producer" who only advertises his own material and projects there.)

To round off the numbers, there were:
- 65 direct promotions
- 14 questions from members
- 13 messy posts from television, the internet (YouTube etc) or other media
- 4 posts about wam events
- 3 discussions (like questions really but evolving to longer responses and themes)
- 1 admin post (the new filter)

At the time of taking that snap shot, featuring the top 100 posts with replies as far back as 17th July, 7 of those new topics were attributed to you promoting your own material. Now one of these was first posted 20 days ago and, other than its latest response, was all but dead for a week. But that still leaves six new promotional posts in six days. Looking at each post there does seem to be a remarkable similarity in the format of each post - the thumbnail stills, often linked or embedded trailer video and a similar text announcement.

Clogging up the forum? Not individually perhaps but when viewed collectively is two-thirds too high, too low or just right? Repetitive? Well you have to at least admit to a remarkable similarity or sheer concidence in the appearance of your promotions alone - and then consider the similarities in other producers promotional posts.



I'm happy to accept my small pond analogy was a poor one. I'm not sure that your numbers aren't dwarfed in comparison to projections for internet (and financial power) growth in other countries, specifically India, China and Russia. And surely more than 30% of the US must be online?

I would also add that I think I mentioned new posts and topics as means to determine the visible activity of a forum's content, not a reference to unique hits, views or even really topic replies. (This might have been something MessMaster also reaised in a reply - so hello too, Messmaster.) Many of which replies - especially for promotional topics - are little more than brief "she looks hot!" or "thanks for that" phrases which, while welcome, don't really add much more than padding. When I visit any forum the first thing that attracts my attention and determines what I click on is the column of topic titles, not the columns showing number of replies or views.



I don't believe that I had said that the work you personally do is wrong, specifically with regard to your own sites or their content. Perhaps you could advise me of what I said in this regard so that I can clarify, justify or retract those statements.

I am also happy to message you privately or through email to provide you with more details of my background and experiences in starting up a fetish website (a free one and a pay one). My own projects and passions would be considered off topic for a WAM forum however and, although some members here have done some cross-over fetish material invloving my main passion, others may have objections to the nature of my work. At the least, announcing off-topic sites could be viewed as a type of spamming or unnecessary and irrelevant promotion. But as someone who has worked with a few of the same models you have used and probably encountered many of the same hiccups along the way, we may find that we have many shared experiences and anecdotes in our efforts to bring a relatively niche fetish to the masses.



I have considered my own forum for my main fetish (not a WAM one) but the logisitics of it all were researched and would prove far too problematic without a much wider support network. Plus in that field there are several well established competitor forums which serve most of the specific niches well enough already. So whether as a hobby or a money maker, there would be no sense in that for me. Others may feel differently, and new forums pop up every now and then for that fetish.

I am sure somewhere that there are other wet and messy forums and communities around. I'd like to add two words to one of your closing statements: "... because everything they want is here ... for now". Sites and forums don't last for ever and even the largest ones around can slow, disappear or die for various reasons, often organic and natural ones, and I have seen this happen at least twice in my main fetish circles to big forums which also hosted image and video content.

It may not sound like it to many readers of this - those who have lasted this long into the debate or even into my post - but at the moment I do feel that the UMD is the best specific fetish forum around, and long may it stay that way. I do hope though that it can remain as a place which offers more than a uncontested noticeboard - yes, I'm sticking with that analogy - for producers/sponsors content and that it continues to allow, accept and even encourage reasonable polite debate and constructive criticism.

Time will tell, if this is good system or a bad idea? The one thing that is noticable, is people dont enjoy when a producer doesa re-promotion. Well that will never change as people need to promote their sites and products. All major producers of any retail material in any shape or form do that.

Example: I saw an advert for an 80's film with Kelly Le-Brock in it 'Wierd Science' Dvd available for £2 uk sterling. So I purchased it. Its a re-promotion, but it helps keep selling a 20yr+ proudct. Its part and parcel of the retail industry. Wether it be mainstream or fetish.

I understand the original poster's intent b/c I've mentioned the same thing before. The UMD is much like a website that started off small and had a few banner ads here or there years ago. But over time, the number of ads has grown and now finding topics that I care about it difficult b/c of the sheer number of ads all over the place. And by ads I'm obviously referring not to actually sidebar and top banner images, but the number of posts made by producers advertising their videos. The UMD just seems overly cluttered anymore.

I know the producers fund the forums and get the most hits. They do provide free pictures, but then again they are still ads. I wouldn't mind seeing a "producer free" subforum where people could discuss WAM without having to sort through ads. Blocking people isn't cool b/c some of the producers make decent comments in threads.

I personally wouldn't mind an option that's kind of like DeviantArt where you can set up a tracking system that alerts you when an artist (or in this case producer) releases NEW material you get a little notification about it in a mailbox.

Again, I do understand why the forums can't be split b/c the producers are basically funding the site. But the original poster's information is still accurate and he makes a valid point about how many posts are advertisements regardless of whether they have free pictures or not. After all, an ad is ad no matter how you do it.

We already have this sytem in place by going to any producers store you can tick a box to be informed about any new releases
