I can't seem to do cake batter without getting little granules of batter inside my eyelids. And they stay for days. It's like having grains of sand up there. It may not be the batter that's there anymore after the first few minutes or hours, but the iritation lasts for days.As you can well imagine, very disturbing. Anyone know how to resolve this? And I wish there were an answer because it's one of my favorite substances to play in.
And don't say use an electric mixer. I mix it that way forever, and it seems to make no difference.
Maybe it's the dunking I do? Maybe I should just pour it over my head. But I love dunking so very much.
And the funny thing about it is you'd think if it felt like sand under my eyelids it would also feel like sand inside me. I have absolutely no problem down there.
Ariel, you are probably one of the most experienced with head covering in batter. No problems for you I guess?
What I'd suggest is that if you're using a store-bought, pre-mixed powder - DON'T! It's simple enough to start from scratch.
Either use premium grade flour or seive the cheaper stuff into your mixing vessel. Plain stuff is better for when you're not baking it. The sugar is next and is most likely what is giving you the problem. When baking, you'd use castor sugar in an equal measure to the flour, however for WAM, that's not so important. You can either use a half measure of castor sugar or switch it for icing sugar. Eggs are optional but I find that it binds better with them. Then it's simply adding liquid until you get the desired consistency. I'd use about 1 part milk to 4 parts water but just plain water works as well. As noise has said, using warm water will help the sugar dissolve faster but don't make it too warm if you're mixing it with milk. Lastly, colour it as desired and enjoy.
Or you can buy cake batter off the shelf for about one dollar per box, add water, and mix with some food coloring. Easy day. No clumps in hair, no drainage issues; easy. As Jayce said, you can buy a mixer for less than $10 at Walmart or wherever and then rock on. Let's stop over-thinking this. Add warm water and mix well and it's the best substance going for ease of use and clean-up. Plus it looks awesome. Dig it.

While I'm not denying that the pre-mixed stuff works well enough and is commonly used, it is meant for baking and eating and so contains far more sugar than is necessary for WAM as well as other ingredients which aren't really needed. For very little difference in cost or effort, the recipe can be tailored to be much better for WAM use. This helps remove or reduce some of the unwanted properties such as the sticking in hair or irritation of the eyes mentioned above.

What's the difference in cost with making your own? I agree that the store bought stuff works great, and I've never had any issues or complaints with irritation or cleanup, but I am curious if there might be an easier/cheaper way to make large volumes. Can you buy supplies in bulk? Anybody calculated the savings (if any)?
Most store-bought mixes are made with cake flour, which has significantly lower gluten levels and is milled more finely. You can buy it in bulk, but it's definitely harder to find.
edit: and I, too, have never had any issues with consistency or small, coarse bits in cake mix, and I've been pouring the stuff over my head (and dunking my face in it, too) for 15 years.
Ariel said: put the powdered cake mix in a big mixing bowl add plenty of warm water and liquid food coloring mix with an electric hand mixer until it's the consistency you like. Easy as pie
Agreed Don't make your own using flour... that doesn't wash out of hair. Packet cake mix rinses out much nicer.... & is tasty and fun x x
Ariel said: Since day one I've used cake mix with water. I've never added anything else and never had it stick in my hair at all. Now pancake mix is a different story! That stuff is murder to long hair! I use the 98 cent boxes of pilsbury from Walmart.
Agreed, packet cake mix has always washed out of my hair so nicely with warm water but cake batter mix is a whole different story ...
Wow, a veritable cornucopia of responses this time.
I've never had any other problems with regular off-the-shelf cake mixes other than the granules under the eyelids. Washes out easily from my hair and down the tub, fun to play in, love the smell and feel, pours fabulously over my head, down my body, into my bra and panties and over my stockings, and I enjoy several of the different natural colors. Lemon may be my favorite with strawberry a close second, always topped off by chocolate at the end which then becomes the dominant color and makes me feel especially dirty as if I'm playing in mud.
And I have used food coloring in white cake batter to get some interesting color combinations. Maybe I should try just playing in that next time as one of the contributors suggested.
I guess the other alternative I have is to just grin and bear it because it's still a shitload of fun. I still get explosive cums in it, and though it is two or three days of annoyance afterwards with the sore eyes, it's always worked itself out with no lingering effects. Maybe my eyes are just super-sensitive. I always get bloodshot eyes every morning after I wake up whenever I travel, which I do alot now over the last couple of years for my "new" job (not such a new job anymore, but it's been the reason I don't "visit" here as much as I did before), which I attribute to a reaction I must get from the laundry soap they use to wash the bedsheets. Oh well, guess the sacrifice of the after-effects of a great time in the tub with cake batter is well worth the rewards.
Thanks for everyone's input. Especially Ariel and Sophie!. I knew if there were any contributors to this forum who would really know from first-hand experience, you would be the ones! BTW, I've been a big fan (and purchaser) of your work for years. You both have even inspired me with ideas of how to play and ingredients to try!
Jayce said: yes the hot water will help the stuff dissolve but it sounds to me like you are using something different than cake batter....cake batter should not have any gritty, sand like consistency at all, it is like a powder before mixed with water. and invest in a small electric hand mixer. so cheap, i looked it up you can get them for 7 dollars at walmart. no lie. plus you can make SO MUCH MORE and it cuts the timein half. i made an entire bath tub of batter in about 35 minutes. hand mixer! and running...but mostly the hand mixer. and as for the eyes, i have just become a HUGE FAN of the head dunking....so, the squint and swipe always works for us, when you go down, just squint your eyes as hard as you can and when you come up, after letting it sit on your face a while to enjoy it, of course, you flatten all your fingers, put them in the crease of your still squinted eyes, and swipe. ever since i learned that trick, never had a problem. hope this helps!
Jayce, I've tried EVERY single one of your suggestions. And i simply ADORE dunking, too.
In fact, the last time I tried cake batter (it's probably been about 3 years ago now since I've shied away from using it), I did practically everything everyone's suggested. I used hot water and mixed each huge bowl of batter with an electric beater for a minimum of 30 minutes each bowl. (I had four all together or it might have been just 1 or 2.) I then let them all sit for a while as I prepared the 30 or so bottles of chocolate syrup I wanted to pour over me after the batter.
When I was ready to begin, I squinted as hard as I could for the first dunking. The moment my face hit the bowl, I could feel the irritation and immediately thought, "Shit, there go my eyes again." (You know, if I were to look in the Splosh forum where you get to write your sploshing stories, I'm pretty sure I told this story complete with the eye problem, LOL!)
Didn't stop me from enjoying some of the best cums I've ever had (which I KNOW I described in the story in Splosh if I told it), but I paid the price the next 3 or so days. But thanks for all the thoughtful suggestions, Jayce!
