How is this slime made?

I don't know exactly what type of slime that is but it appears to be a polymer by the way it can "hold" like a solid.

It doesn't look like nastrasol but it could be methylcellulose... see the description on this video here if you want to know to make the stuff:

I'd bet that it's polyvinyl alcohol. (PVA) It's a non-newtonian fluid when prepared. I have about 10 pounds of it but it's a REAL bitch to make from scratch. You have to dissolve and cook a precise amount of the powder in water for 15-20 minutes with out ever bringing it to a boil to create a 4% solution. Then you have to carefully add a 3-4% borax solution until you get the consistency you want. The first time I made a batch it came out way too thick but the video was still pretty interesting.

There are some educational supply houses on the net that sell the precooked solution in 2-liter bottles, which probably eliminates about 90% of the headaches, but it's not cheap that way.

I would hazard it's methylcellulose made thick and then left overnight to cool and go smooth.

Would take some experimentation to get that though if I am right.

I've seen that as a product called "Body Slime" which I think is made in Germany.

It's not methylcellulose. Watch the video. It doesn't "wet" the skin, has elastic properties, and breaks in a straight line when stressed. Clearly non-newtonian and there aren't a lot of substances that exhibit those properties.

FYI, you can also use Elmer's Glue in the above recipe. It's made of PVA.

I did have a play around to try and get somthing similar from the half a dozen or so different methocels and other similar stuff I have here. I got quite close by adding a small amount of borax solution to some methocell. It didn't wet the skin but was a bit too solid , much like play doh. I would guess that with some experimenting with quantities you could get this right.
