I lurk here often, rarely commenting, but your post intrigued me. For some of your questions the answers are simple, for others I don't think there is a real answer.

A question you didn't ask, which interests many who have it, is "why do I have this fetish? How did it begin for me? How come you have it?". Most responses I have seen are typically, and perhaps predictably, Freudian: it was known about in each individual since infancy, childhood memories of food-play, falling in mud, television from the nineteen eighties; gunge-filled gameshows featuring ritual humiliation.

The thing about this fetish, or at least this scene, is that it is made of people with very diverse kinks. What does it for one person does nothing for another. The lowest common denominator is that for everyone here something wet and messy is involved. I guess that's the only answer to your first question.

The "research" approach is also one of the most tried-out approaches I've seen around here - there are a billion psychology students in the world picking up extra credits, so sometimes it's legit, sometimes it's a personality based on a lie to make a quick buck. Honesty is also the best policy around here, though, because no-one 'somehow' stumbles across fetish sites through magic spells and rabbit-holes; we know how Google works - it's easily brought the bulk of the community here. Well, I use public parklands.

It's a minor concern since the trails are not usually far away, but really, the boggy, marshy, peaty areas of the swamps aren't very popular with park-goers. In fact I've never bumped into a soul while actually in the marsh.

I will always give the benefit of the doubt to someone looking for answers. I know I was pretty surprised to find out that other people are actually aroused by pudding and slime. That being said, forums aren't exactly the strongest sources to use for an academic paper. Granted, the amount of peer reviewed literature out there is minimal at best.
