Guys - I need some advice on releasing a large-ish quantity - say about 30 litres, 3 bucketfuls - of gunge from overhead in one go. It would be the consistency of thick, lumpy custard. If anyone has any experience of such a thing, can you advise me?

a) Any ideas for a container and release mechanism that won't result in a steady 'pour', but rather a sudden massive deluge?
b) How 'heavy' would it feel if it hit someone lying on their back? I'm assuming it won't sting or wind them but I'd like to be sure.

I don't really have any advice about how to get it up, keep it up and then let it down, but bear in mind 30 litres (of water at least) will weigh approximately 30 kgs (any gunge mix tends to be a bit lighter, but still....) 30kgs is between a third and a half the weight of a washing machine....so be careful!

Heh heh, that's kind of what I was thinking. Don't worry - I won't squash my models.

It won't be cheap but you could build a plexiglas tank to hold your gunge. Reinforce the tank with square steel tubing and mount the tank on top of a wooden stand with four post. You would have to use actual post like you would build a deck or porch with and reinforce that as well. As fa as releasing the gunge you could use a stopper for the bath tub and a chain. That's just an idea and I am no structural engineer. And Dave is right it will be very heavy.
