I often dip into a topic then use CTRL+[left arrow] or even backspace to go back to the previous page.

Now that's stopped working, because for some reason you're automatically putting the focus in the search box. I can see why, but it's annoying.

Even worse when you're posting a message, as the focus should be in the message box if anywhere.

MORE IMPORTANTLY

If you start scrolling down a page before it's totally finished loading, then when it HAS finished loading it will snap you back up to the top where the search box is, thus losing your place on the page.

Automatically putting focus in the search box is good for Google because it's not a long page and everybody is there to search. Not so good here.

Agreed! I use backspace a lot to go back to the previous page. When the focus is set on a form element, this doesn't work... So please remove the auto-focus in the Search field

Okay.... I've taken it off. Didn't even know it was auto-scrolling, too. That sucks.
