I heard back from Ann Margret's people that she never appeared on this show or any show where she did a Hawaiian dance and had chocolate thrown at her. I would love to know who the girl was that did this skit because it sounds like one to see.

I don't know the girls name, but she was a regular on the show. She also go hit with a pie in one of thier dungeon sketches.

I had thought it was Ann Margret but obviously it sounds like it was someone else. I do remember the dance routine well, I saw it on a repeat about three times. There were a bunch of bikini-clad dancers surrounding the main singer/dancer who was also in a bikini. In the background was a fake volcano. During the song, the volcano 'erupted' spewing choclate - probably runny pudding or perhaps chocolate sauce. A few globs landed on some of the dancers at first, then more and more, until you could tell there were people off-camera throwing whole bucket-fulls at a time. All of the dancers and the main singer, got hit really good, covered head to toe in the chocolate sauce. I think some even slipped in it and fell, but I remember it was a very good wam scene and was one of the 'formative wam scenes' that we all seem to recall that helped to get us into wam. I have tried since that time to locate the scene, but nobody usually even remembers seeing it. I know it wasn't a dream! LOL

Well....being from the UK myself......I am sure CSJ, as a Canadian, knows Canadian Tv shows very well....so I am sure he saw what he says he saw. I can only tell you of what I know that scene is NOT on....

...i.e. I recently ordered the new release DVD boxed set of the entire series of the Hudson Brothers "Razzle Dazzle" Saturday morning series...and that was a complete dud...i.e. no wam scenes at all in that series...and the comedy routines in every show were totally REPETITIVE and they repeated the same lame comedy skits many times in every show...so don't waste for money on that tv series made by the Hudson Brothers.

The annoying thing about that recent dvd boxed set release of their Razzle Dazzle show series...is that included in the DVD extras are some highlight scenes from their OTHER primetime 1hr variety show series....now THAT series should be hunted down and checked out, cos the scene you speak of may have been on one of their 1hr tv special series they did.

I also have some scenes on tape from their other comedy series called BONKERS (made with UK tv star Bob Monkhouse) and there ARE some pie scenes in that series....but I have never seen the volcano/chocolate scene you describe. It might have been on their BONKERS series...but I have seen most of those episodes and do not recall it...and they did have a recurring skit in a dungeon on that series.

It sounds like we have another mystery on our hands then....something that needs more research and investigation.

BTW....another ongoing mystery is the person on this forum who swears he saw Marie Osmond in a pie scene with Suzanne Somers....and I can only find 3 instances where these 2 ladies were on the same show together....i.e. Suzanne appeared twice on the Donny and Marie show...and Marie was a guest on Suzanne Somers tv special from 1982 that was shot on an aircraft carrier....and I tracked down copies of all 3 of those entire shows....and there is no pie scene I can find on any of those shows....so either that person was having a mind-melt....or there is still a missing Marie/Suzanne pie scene somewhere out there.

Likewise....others have sworn that they saw Charo being pied on THE CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE tv series in the 1970's....and I bought that DVD boxed set too....which was a letdown...cos they called it THE ULTIMATE dvd boxed set....which was baloney...cos they promised it would be the ENTIRE series...but they only released 11 of the 20 shows on DVD...and that Charo pie scene was NOT on the dvd release....so there were 9 other shows NOT released on the DVD boxed set....so perhaps that missing Charo scene is on one of those missing 9 shows somewhere.

Regarding that Hudson Brothers show...my gut feel is that the scene you want was NOT from Bonkers...cos that was a low budget show made in the UK. The scene you want is probably on one of the 6 tv specials that they made in 1974 which aired as a summer replacement series for the Sonny & Cher show that summer.

I'm not sure if this is going to help or muddy the waters more.

First, I've seen photos of Charo pieing herself with "Shakespeare" looking on. I don't know what show that was from, but it would be the same era as the Captain and Tenille show.

Second, the Hudson Brothers had a show, with their name in the title I think, that ran in what was then called "prime time access" in the mid 70s. The idea was for the networks to give the local stations half an hour back, for the stations to use for "local" programming. What ended up happening was that Monday-Saturday, most stations scheduled syndicated programming: old sitcoms, game shows and some syndicated shows made specially for that half hour of "local" programming.

Sundays, for awhile, the half-hour given back was 10:30-11:00 p.m. And today, that half hour is filled with syndicated game shows or entertainment news shows. So much for "local" programming.

At any rate, one syndicated show I watched in that half hour was "Madhouse Brigade." Among its skits was an English Leather cologne ad spoof where the actress would say "My man wears EL or nothing at all" and then there'd be a reaction - maybe the man in a domination outfit or, in one version, she was pied well (but little reaction shot).

Another show was the Hudson Brothers. The guest star was often pied. Florence Henderson was pied; that's where those pied photos of her come from. My favorite was Karen Valentine, who was still very cute despite dying her hair blonde. She was pied to "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" -- but the pie thrower MISSED on the first shot, and she laughed. The other hits, in the time to the music, were very good.

At any rate, MK, what you're looking for is the syndication series by the Hudson Brothers, with their name in the title somehow.

I remember the Captain and Tenille show VIVIDLY. I was 15 in 1976 and it came on before Monday night football (BIG FOOTBALL FAN),

I watch that show and Annette Funicello was promoed to be pied in MAsterjoke theater and it endup with David Soul pieing himself ffor the second time

And Charo pied herself on that show and it aired the Monday after The friday show that Charo pied herself on Sonny & Cher

And of course the last Captain and Tennille show all the sisters got pied

No Lenny...I am certainly not the great pie expert as Hurley is.

I am merely "the keeper of the data"....i.e. the librarian who stored all the notes for "wanted scenes" that Hurley and other pie fans sent to me since 1992. We have since been able to track down and obtain many of the scenes on Hurley's list, but there are still many that remain lost, like the ark of the covenant....

e.g. one of the long lost items I have always wanted to find, was that early 60's episode of "The Steve Allen Show" where he engaged in a mass pie fight with several Playboy bunnies. We have found the Steve Allen show where he wrestles in the mud with a female mudwrestler - but that Playboy bunny pie scene still eludes us. I know that one pie fan had actually written to Steve Allen (shortly before his death, which was within a month of Rob Blaine's passing in 2000) asking if he had the tape of that show in his archives, and Mr Allen replied that he did not have that one in his personal archives either.

Yes...we all have the Charo pie scene from the Sonny and Cher show (which is the scene that Sleazoid44 refers too....but the lost item we do not have is her pie scene from Captain and Tenille show...that you and several others remember well.

Another item Hurley had on his list that nobody has ever found, was that late 80's episode of "Entertainment Tonite" where both Mary Hart and Maria Shriver got pied together....that would be a real winner to find that scene some day.

I still want to see this Hudson Bros sketch since it sounds like a keeper. I really do wish it was Ann Margret but she gave us one of the greatest WAM scenes ever so I can't complain. I might be meeting Ann Margret soon too.

If it helps at all, I recall seeing the 'chocolate volcano' dance routine a few times ALWAYS between 6:30 and 8:30 in the evening. So it was NOT the weekly Saturday morning show, it very probably was a special that was aired and repeated, always during the early evenings.

Does anyone know if the Karen Valentine pie-ing on the Hudson Brothers survives on a Hurely or WAMTEC cliptape or a digital video clip anywhere online?

Another of the great lost WAM scenes: Ann Margret was pied on some TV special (variety show style) that she did in the mid-70's. This was on Hurley's "great lost WAM scenes" list and there's at least one UMD forum member who remembers seeing it.

And another lost scene, much more recent: in about 1997, the gorgeous Gabrielle Hall was pied in an HBO series called Butterscotch, which was an adaption of some comic or graphic novel.

The Ann Margret pieing scene was in her second TV special and it's ok but nothing to go crazy over.

So you saw the pie scene at one point? What can you tell us about it beyond the fact that it was ok? What was the setup, how was she dressed, etc.?

It's a performance about getting into showbiz in Hollywood so she's dressed in this yellow oversized clown suit and hat and someone hit's her right in the face with a pie. It was complete coverage but it happens so quick so I never really was that into it. You're really not missing anything.
