If the pie has an aluminum or even a paper plate at the moment of impact, the person throwing the pie is an ignorant douchebag who should be forbidden by law to ever again hurl any kind of pie or other replica of baked goods. In fact, this especially applies if it's a real baked good.
The pie crusts over here crumble into a million pieces if you take them out of the tins... I have developed a tecnique for throwing though, where the tin stays in my hand as the pie comes flying out... I will demonstrate later on Amber and Ami!
No, I think he was quoting from the article you brought up. Rob always used tins on the pies...and so does Mr MG of Messygirl sometimes... He throws a great pie BTW!
I think it's great either way, crust or tin. In the Game show Pie Video I did, there are both kinds, crust and tin. Sometimes it's fun to just mix things up a bit.
The tin doesn't really hurt even when it's thrown hard, from my experience.
But..the crust does kinda look and feel rather nice when it's on the face...and everywhere else for that matter.
I have a new updated version of this by the way, I'll see about getting it up tomorrow.
There is just no reason for tins at all. The only time I have done it is when I already had the filling in and realized they were still in the tin - getting them out with filling is impossible. Last time I did that though, I just threw the pies away.
A risk of cutting a girls face is not worth it alone (It does happen.) Then... what possible aesthetic reason is there for a big silver thing in the shot? It just gets in the way... the only thing worse would be someone walking in front of the shot.
Then there's the sound of the fucking things. It's horrible and completely unnecessary to here a pie tin hit the ground... and anything that takes the viewer out of the moment should be avoided.
I stand my ground, pie tins are lazy and avoidable.
You may find people that love pie videos and aren't to fussed or only have a slight preferance, but I will bet you won't find any that think they are the only way to go. I'll bet the majority prefer no pie tins.
No, I think there was an at least partially pro-tin comment from one of my favorite model/producers, and I wanted to clarify that I was not intending to jump all over her with my anti-tin remarks, just in case it was taken that way.
I like the glasses. Somehow it adds to it, that she gets it in the glasses. Maybe I will wear mine in a video sometime
And ok ok! You don't like tins! I guess we just got used to them cause that's what Rob used. I remember asking him about it when I did my first pie shoot and he said he thought it detracted to have the pieces of crust on the girls body, and face, etc. It interfered in his opinion. Different Strokes! I also asked him if we could ever use "real" pies, like apple, cherry, etc. He said nope, he wanted to stick to his pies. Again, different strokes. I've personally always wanted to pied with a "real" pie. I'll have to do that sometime...maybe while I wear the glasses...lol
Here are a couple of pics from my first pie shoot...you can see the tin in one of them

Lmfao...we did those as a custom shoot. By "request". It was someone's fantasy to have tins full of cream. He even wrote the script. Again, different strokes for different folks. It was a fun shoot to do. Loads of fun in fact. Id do it all over in a heartbeat...
Somewhere out there is another guy saying...pies to the face? of girls? why? I don't get it....
He doesn't get why you like girls pied at all. You don't get why someone paid for a custom video of tins full of shaving cream...etc etc.
I guess I'm pretty tolerant of others liking different sorts of things. It doesn't bother me, it intrigues me. I always think that something messy I haven't tried before might end up being SO much fun. And I'm usually right

I can not recommend wearing glasses for a pie! That's a recipe for two unintentional black eyes!
A cherry or apple pie isn't really going to have an effect except if it had no lid, then it would smear a little red or green.
Would taste great though
Even better if it was topped with cream... taste AND effect!
If you ever find yourself in SoCal anywhere near LA or San Diego, we will happily shower you with real pies...
I'm sure one or two real pies mixed in won't kill it for anyone. After all, it will make us want to lick it clean off eachother, and that's not such a bad thing is it?
My friend that I do bachelor parties with all the time is going to LA in Feb. and wants me to come with her. If I do, you can pie both of us. With CRUST. LoL We can have a contest to see which producer throws the best pie. I've been pied by what? Four so far? Lost count. Mr. MG is gonna be tough to beat though! Those were some damn good pies.
Rob was anti-crust? Oh, man. Talk about knocking someone off the pedestal. Oh, well.
I understand (and I think it was even Rob, or maybe Mark Kelly, who explained this in print at some point) that fruit pies are technically difficult, in that the fillings won't stick to anything and just plop to the floor. But when you can get them to work, they do produce a nice effect. And aren't there a few fruit-filled pies in "Ariel's Pie Shop" and the 14-girl pie fight, just for variety?
Other pies would have been thrown in (sorry for the pun) at a models request (begging)...
He just wasn't a fan of the real pie I guess. He woulda done it for a custom shoot maybe though if anyone had asked. I just don't think he got enough request for no tin...otherwise I imagine he would have done it. Even when crusts were used...they were usually still in the tin. By the time I did my first pie shoot, he said he didn't like the way the crust was there. As I recall, there were crusts here and there in the pies? But certainly not every one if I recall. There was always more filling than there was crust, and the filling was never left to waste!
You hate tins...but that 3 girl pie scene was awesome. We had a blast. Just look at our faces!! Rob even filled up one of those huge super-soakers with pudding and we got to fire it at eachother. Awesome. I'm glad this was brought up. I looked at all those pics again, and it brought back all those memories.
